We present a new algorithm for imitation learning in infinite horizon linear MDPs dubbed ILARL which greatly improves the bound on the number of trajectories that the learner needs to sample from the environment. In particular, we re- move exploration assu ...

The tension–tension fatigue behavior of pseudo-ductile hybrid bonded-bolted double lap basalt composite joints, composed of pseudo-ductile adhesives and adherends with multi-directional fiber architecture, was experimentally investigated. The fatigue damag ...

Students learn more when they are actively engaged in the learning process. While hands-on activities, labs and projects are moments when students are active, the learning benefits can be amplified with coaching strategies. This activity will enable studen ...

Computer simulations are often used as support material for science education, as they can engage students through inquiry-based learning, promote their active interaction in the experimentation phase, and help them visualize abstract concepts. For instanc ...

Sustaining changes in teachers’ practices is a challenge that determines the success of curricular reforms, from which Digital Education (DE) is not exempt. As the literature on sustainability is considered “scarce” and “scattered”, long-term studies model ...

With the educational expansion, ever more students start a tertiary degree. At the École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, an engineering school, the number of bachelor students increased from 3'713 in 2010 to 6'330 in 2022. However, in Switzerland, a co ...

The increasing availability of Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) has created a necessity for personalized course recommendation systems. These systems often combine neural networks with Knowledge Graphs (KGs) to achieve richer representations of learners ...

Microscopic traffic flow models can be distinguished in lane-based or lane-free depending on the degree of lane-discipline. This distinction holds true only if motorcycles are neglected in lane-based traffic. In cities, as opposed to highways, this is an o ...

This book summarises 15 years of research (2007-2021) on the exploitation of digital technologies for VET. In other words, our activities started the same year as the first iPhone was launched! Four research groups formed the leading house on the topic, na ...

Whilst, in many countries, the sudden enforced transfer to large-scale distance learning in state schools as a result of COVID_19 lockdown measures caused turmoil, it also provided an unprecedented opportunity to understand more about key factors associate ...

Using phase-modulation-induced potential gradient whose period is synchronized to a microwave opto-electronic oscillator, dissipative Kerr solitons generated in a crystalline optical microresonator are trapped by the soliton tweezing effect, exhibiting a s ...

The concept of a multi-source inverter (MSI) based on NPC topology was recently introduced for hybrid-electric powertrains to connect several dc sources to the traction load in a single conversion stage without magnetics. This work proposes a new modulatio ...

The learning process depends on the nature of the learning environment, particularly in the case of open-ended learning environments, where the learning process is considered to be non-linear. In this paper, we report on the findings of employing a multimo ...

Introduction: With the increasing amount of research around Computational Thinking (CT) and endeavors introducing CT into curricula worldwide, assessing CT at all levels of formal education is of utmost importance to ensure that CT-related learning objecti ...

While chatbots are commonly used to support software developers with repetitive tasks, their use in programming education is still limited, particularly for students in non-technical domains. To better understand the potential for chatbots to support progr ...

The emergence of digital technology is changing education in many ways. A particularly interesting aspect of this transformation is the development of learning environments that can automatically adapt to individual students and can collect data in order t ...

In this paper, we attempt to show some consequences of bringing the body back into higher education, through the use of performing arts in the curricular context of scientific programs. We start by arguing that dominant traditions in higher education repro ...

In this paper we examine the impacts of the global pandemic in 2020 on different levels of education system, particularly looking at the changes in teaching practice. The health emergency caused closure of schools, and online distance education became a te ...

Despite the importance of learning analytics in digital education, there is limited support for researchers in education to generate, access, and share experimental data while complying with ethical and privacy legislation. We propose a set of related tool ...

We demonstrate optical frequency comb generation in hybrid high-Q optical microresonators fabricated using direct wafer bonding of photonic Damascene silicon nitride wafer with thin-film lithium niobate-on-insulator (LNOI). The devices enable direct phase ...
