Effective Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) relies on accurate prediction of the Remaining Useful Life (RUL). Data-driven RUL prediction techniques rely heavily on the representativeness of the available time-to-failure trajectories. Therefore, these ...

In this thesis we explore the applications of projective geometry, a mathematical theory of the relation between 3D scenes and their 2D images, in modern learning-based computer vision systems. This is an interesting research question which contradicts the ...

Single-photon 3D cameras can record the time-of-arrival of billions of photons per second with picosecond accuracy. One common approach to summarize the photon data stream is to build a per-pixel timestamp histogram, resulting in a 3D histogram tensor that ...

Cross-resolution face recognition has become a challenging problem for modern deep face recognition systems. It aims at matching a low-resolution probe image with high-resolution gallery images registered in a database. Existing methods mainly leverage pri ...

Reinterpretable cameras are defined by their post-processing capabilities that exceed traditional imaging. We present "SoDaCam" that provides reinterpretable cameras at the granularity of photons, from photon-cubes acquired by single-photon devices. Photon ...

We present an image-based pipeline for generating geometrical digital twins (GDTs) of stone masonry elements with detail down to the stone level. For this purpose, we acquire RGB images of the individual stones and of the wall during the construction phase ...

Measuring neural oscillatory synchrony facilitates our understanding of complex brain networks and the underlying pathological states. Altering the cross-regional synchrony-as a measure of brain network connectivity-via phase-locked deep brain stimulation ...

The cameras are invented by imitating the human visual system to capture the scene. The camera technologies have been substantially advanced in recent years. 108 MP resolution with 100x hybrid zoom has become standard features for smartphone flagships. In ...

The impact of in-scanner motion on functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data has a notorious reputation in the neuroimaging community. State-of-the-art guidelines advise to scrub out excessively corrupted frames as assessed by a composite framewise ...

A two-platform measurement system for realizing airborne thermography of the Lake Surface Water Temperature (LSWT) with ~0.8 m pixel resolution (sub-pixel satellite scale) is presented. It consists of a tethered Balloon Launched Imaging and Monitoring Plat ...

The dominant approach for learning local patch descriptors relies on small image regions whose scale must be properly estimated a priori by a keypoint detector. In other words, if two patches are not in correspondence, their descriptors will not match. A s ...

In this paper, we propose kinetic Euclidean distance matrices (KEDMs) a new algebraic tool for localization of moving points from spatio temporal distance measurements. KEDMs are inspired by the well-known Euclidean distance matrices (EDM) which model stat ...

With ever greater computational resources and more accessible software, deep neural networks have become ubiquitous across industry and academia. Their remarkable ability to generalize to new samples defies the conventional view, which holds that complex, ...

Biofilms are a most successful microbial lifestyle and prevail in a multitude of environmental and engineered settings. Understanding biofilm morphogenesis, that is the structural diversification of biofilms during community assembly, represents a remarkab ...

Feature detection and description constitute important steps of many computer vision applications such as object detection and panorama stitching. Since those steps are computationally heavy, they might occupy significant portion of the full operation. Alt ...

Estimating the 3D poses of rigid and articulated bodies is one of the fundamental problems of Computer Vision. It has a broad range of applications including augmented reality, surveillance, animation and human-computer interaction. Despite the ever-growin ...

A method for training a feature detector of an image processing device, including the steps of detecting features in the image to generate a score map, computing a center of mass on the score map to generate a location, extracting a patch from the image at ...

Two popular examples of first-order optimization methods over linear spaces are coordinate descent and matching pursuit algorithms, with their randomized variants. While the former targets the optimization by moving along coordinates, the latter considers ...

Bulging is a medical characteristic of the eardrum that is crucial for the diagnosis of acute otitis media. This work proposes a novel classification method for distinguishing bulged eardrums from non-bulged ones. The method uses novel key features extract ...

To investigate blob properties in the tokamak scrape-off layer (SOL), we perform dedicated numerical nonlinear simulations of plasma turbulence in the SOL of a TCV discharge using the Global Braginskii Solver code. A blob detection technique is used for th ...
