Logic synthesis is a cornerstone of electronic design automation (EDA), facilitating the optimization of power, performance, and area (PPA) in integrated circuits. As complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology approaches its physical limitat ...

Surface functionalization of 1D materials such as silicon nanowires is a critical preparation technology for biochemical sensing. However, existing nonselective functionalization techniques result in nonlocal binding and contamination, with potential devic ...

Edible electronics leverages the electronic properties of food-derived materials to deliver safer technologies that can be degraded (or digested) in the environment (or body) at the end-of-life. Sensors will be central to future smart edible robots, and ed ...

Integrated nanoelectromechanical (NEM) relays can be used instead of transistors to implement ultra-low power logic circuits, due to their abrupt turn off characteristics and zero off-state leakage. Further, realizing circuits with 4-terminal (4-T) NEM rel ...

Current technological improvements are yet to put the world on track to net-zero, which will require the uptake of transformative low-carbon innovations to supplement mitigation efforts. However, the role of such innovations is not yet fully understood; so ...

Like integrated electronics, integrated photonics such as Silicon Photonics benefit from increased device-density on a single chip. Silicon is an excellent material for integrated photonics because its high refractive index allows devices to be made small, ...

Extractive resources are indisputably a necessary component of international sustainable development. Despite current advancements in the circular economy, world production needs for raw materials are ever increasing, and still a long way remains for it to ...

The book collects the keynote contributions and the papers presented at the “8th Italian Conference of Researchers in Geotechnical Engineering 2023, CNRIG’23”. The conference was held on July 5–7, 2023, at the University of Palermo (Italy), and it was orga ...

Promisingapplications in photonics are driven by the ability tofabricate crystal-quality metal thin films of controlled thicknessdown to a few nanometers. In particular, these materials exhibit ahighly nonlinear response to optical fields owing to the indu ...

Visual processing can be seen as the integration and segmentation of features. Objects are composed of contours, integrated into shapes and segmented from other contours. Information also needs to be integrated to solve the ill-posed problems of vision. Fo ...

Magnetic thin films and magnetic nanostructures have become essential components of modern technological applications. Modern branches of magnetisms focus on spin-charge coupling (spintronics) and the collective excitation of spin waves in magnetically ord ...

The recent devastating pandemic has drastically reminded humanity of the importance of constant scientific and technological progress. A strong interdisciplinary dialogue between academic and industrial scientists of various specialties, entrepreneurs, man ...

In this paper, we present a response to the Interest-Driven Creator (IDC) Theory from a European perspective. Specifically, we raise six questions intended to start a dialogue with respect to IDC Theory’s placement in existing learning theories, its adopti ...

The ability to integrate complex electronic and optoelectronic functionalities within soft and thin fibers is one of today's key advanced manufacturing challenges. Multifunctional and connected fiber devices will be at the heart of the development of smart ...

The NEREID project ("NanoElectronics Roadmap for Europe: Identification and Dissemination") is dedicated to mapping the future of European Nanoelectronics. NEREID's objective is to develop a medium and long term roadmap for the European nanoelectronics ind ...

This article discusses the concept and the practice of transdisciplinary research, including how it is conceived and implemented through the cooperation of different actors involved. With transdisciplinarity gaining recognition as an approach to addressing ...

Small agricultural firms have to cope with increasing economic, legal and environmental difficulties. The purpose of the paper is to identify whether there are available research outputs to these challenges, focusing on the Swiss traditional fruit sector. ...

The concept of ecosystem services (ES) is regarded as an increasingly important framework and tool to support spatial planning. A limited understanding of how ES knowledge is used in spatial plans constrains our ability to learn from, replicate, and convey ...

In this work we explore the fabrication and experimental characterization of multi-gate FD-SOI devices that can operate both as single electron transistors (SETs) and MOSFETs. FD-SOI SET operation is achieved with electrostatically induced tunneling barrie ...

Toward industry 4.0, modern manufacturing companies are aiming at building digital twins to manage physical assets, processes, people, and places. Since in this environment, massive amounts of data have been generated and collected, integration and managem ...
