Perfect elasticity is not achievable in real-life situation, so spring stiffness is not perfectly constant. In this paper, we study the effect of modifying non-linear stiffness terms while keeping the nominal stiffness constant. We introduce three methods ...

Fast liquid jets are investigated for use as a needle-free drug delivery system into an elastic tissue such as skin. Using smaller jet diameters in a repetitive regime can mitigate bruising and pain associated with current injectors. In this study, we aim ...

The focus of this work is on the development of an error-driven isogeometric framework, capable of automatically performing an adaptive simulation in the context of second- and fourth-order, elliptic partial differential equations defined on two-dimensiona ...

(1) Understanding tree seedling responses to water, nutrient, and light availability is crucial to precisely predict potential shifts in composition and structure of forest communities under future climatic conditions. (2) We exposed seedlings of widesprea ...

Amid a data revolution that is transforming industries around the globe, computing systems have undergone a paradigm shift where many applications are scaled out to run on multiple computers in a computing cluster. As the storage and processing capabilitie ...

Information-intensive transformation is vital to realize the Industry 4.0 paradigm, where processes, systems, and people are in a connected environment. Current factories must combine different sources of knowledge with different technological layers. Taki ...

One underexplored factor directly affecting firms' use of trademarks relates to the fees associated with obtaining a mark. This paper provides econometric estimates of the fee elasticity of demand for trademark applications. Using a panel of monthly intern ...

Inspired by the introduction of Volumetric Modeling via volumetric representations (V-reps) by Massarwi and Elber in 2016, in this paper we present a novel approach for the construction of isogeometric numerical methods for elliptic PDEs on trimmed geometr ...

We introduce the Reduced Immersed Method (RIM) for the real-time simulation of two-way coupled incompressible fluids and elastic solids and the interaction of multiple deformables with (self-)collisions. Our framework is based on a novel discretization of ...

The emergence of motorcycle taxis as a mode of urban transport in Africa can be seen as a bottom-up response to the larger problem of a demand that is not sufficiently met by public services. Transcending the debates regarding the relevance of this solutio ...
