Both seismic observations of dense low shear velocity regions and models of magma ocean crystallization and mantle dynamics support enrichment of iron in Earth’s lowermost mantle. Physical properties of iron-rich lower mantle heterogeneities in the modern ...

We carried out a series of silicate fractional crystallization experiments at lower mantle pressures using the laser-heated diamond anvil cell. Phase relations and the compositional evolution of the cotectic melt and equilibrium solids along the liquid lin ...

The thicknesss of the brittle lithosphere—the outer portion of a planetary body that fails via fracturing— plays a key role in the geological processes of that body. The properties of both a planet and its host star can influence that thickness, and the po ...

This study evaluates the secondary electron (SE) dopant contrast in scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and helium ion microscopy (HIM) on boron implanted silicon sample. Complementary techniques like secondary ion mass spectrometry and electrochemical capa ...

The limitations and potential complications correlated with autogenous bone grafts have raised interest in the development of synthetic bone graft substitutes. ß-tricalcium phosphate (ß-TCP) is one of the most promising materials for synthetic bone graft s ...

Current advances in ultrafast electron microscopy make it possible to combine optical pumping of a nanostructure and electron beam probing with sub-Angstrom and femtosecond spatiotemporal resolution. We present a theory predicting that this technique can r ...

Conventional electron microscopy operates with flat electron wave fronts. Employing attenuative or electrostatic phase plates allows transversally modulating the wave front, enhancing cross-sections of particular scattering channels. Utilization of light f ...

Integrated photonics facilitates extensive control over fundamental light-matter interactions in manifold quantum systems including atoms(1), trapped ions(2,3), quantum dots(4) and defect centres(5). Ultrafast electron microscopy has recently made free-ele ...

In recent decades, in situ electron microscopy has attracted considerable attention. The method enables real time observations of the transformations of nanoparticles under various stimuli with atomic spatial resolution. Time-resolved electron microscopy a ...

We compare two transmission electron microscopy (TEM) based techniques that can provide highly spatially resolved quantitative measurements of magnetic induction fields at high sensitivity. To this end, the magnetic induction of a ferromagnetic NiFe nanowi ...
