A new approach is presented to obtain a convex set of robust D—stabilizing fixed structure controllers, relying on Cauchy's argument principle. A convex set of D—stabilizing controllers around an initial D—stabilizing controller for a multi-model set is re ...

The projection of sample measurements onto a reconstruction space represented by a basis on a regular grid is a powerful and simple approach to estimate a probability density function. In this paper, we focus on Riesz bases and propose a projection operato ...

We characterize the solution of a broad class of convex optimization problems that address the reconstruction of a function from a finite number of linear measurements. The underlying hypothesis is that the solution is decomposable as a finite sum of compo ...

We consider the problem of finding a saddle point for the convex-concave objective

\min_x \max_y f(x) + \langle Ax, y\rangle - g^*(y)

, where

f

is a convex function with locally Lipschitz gradient and

g

is convex and possibly non-smooth. We propose an ...

Large horsepower induction motors play a critical role in the operation of industrial facilities. In this respect, the distribution network operators dedicate a high priority to the operational safety of these motor loads. In this paper, the induction moto ...

At the typical spatial resolution of MRI in the human brain, approximately 60–90% of voxels contain multiple fiber populations. Quantifying microstructural properties of distinct fiber populations within a voxel is therefore challenging but necessary. Whil ...

We explore consequences of the Averaged Null Energy Condition (ANEC) for scaling dimensions Delta of operators in four-dimensional N = 1 superconformal field theories. We show that in many cases the ANEC bounds are stronger than the corresponding unitarity ...

This paper presents a new model of voltage source converter (VSC)-based battery energy storage systems (BESSs) that interface with power grids. A VSC-based BESS is made up of a series connection of a VSC, its connecting transformer and a BESS. The VSC allo ...

An alternative approach for real-time network-wide traffic control in cities that has recently gained a lot of interest is perimeter flow control. The basic concept of such an approach is to partition heterogeneous cities into a small number of homogeneous ...

Machine learning promises to accelerate materials discovery by allowing computational efficient property predictions from a small number of reference calculations. As a result, the literature spent a considerable effort in designing representations that ca ...

OBJECTIVE The authors developed a new, real-time interactive inverse planning approach, based on a fully convex framework, to be used for Gamma Knife radiosurgery. ...

We study convex optimization problems that feature low-rank matrix solutions. In such scenarios, non-convex methods offer significant advantages over convex methods due to their lower space complexity as well as faster convergence speed. Moreover, many of ...

Redundant Gabor frames admit an infinite number of dual frames, yet only the canonical dual Gabor system, constructed from the minimal l(2)-norm dual window, is widely used. This window function however, might lack desirable properties, e. g. good time-fre ...

The extensive use of frequency-domain tools for analyzing and controlling linear systems have become indispensable for the control systems engineer. However, due to the increased performance demands on today's industrial systems, the effects of certain non ...

We consider the homogeneous and the non-homogeneous convex relaxations for combinatorial penalty functions defined on support sets. Our study identifies key differences in the tightness of the resulting relaxations through the notion of the lower combinato ...

This thesis focuses on the development of robust control solutions for linear time-invariant interconnected systems affected by polytopic-type uncertainty. The main issues involved in the control of such systems, e.g. sensor and actuator placement, control ...

Dynamic optimization problems affected by uncertainty are ubiquitous in many application domains. Decision makers typically model the uncertainty through random variables governed by a probability distribution. If the distribution is precisely known, then ...

Graph Signal Processing generalizes classical signal processing to signal or data indexed by the vertices of a weighted graph. So far, the research efforts have been focused on static graph signals. However numerous applications involve graph signals evolv ...

We propose to use non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) to estimate the unknown pairwise distances and reconstruct a distance matrix for microphone array position calibration. We develop new multiplicative update rules for NMF with incomplete input matri ...

Mapping the local microstructure properties of the tissue in the brain is crucial to understand any pathological condition from a biological perspective. In recent years, microstructure-imaging techniques aimed at extracting such precious information by us ...
