Germanium (Ge) nanowires hold great promise as building blocks for hole spin-based quantum processors. Realizing this potential requires their direct integration onto silicon (Si) wafers. This work introduces V-groove-confined selective epitaxy to enable t ...

Manipulating the size and orientation of quantum materials is often used to tune emergent phenomena, but precise control of these parameters is also necessary from an experimental point of view. Various synthesis techniques already exist, such as epitaxial ...

Synthesizing high-quality epitaxial BaTiO3 (BTO) by means of high-vacuum chemical vapor deposition (HV-CVD) requires a precise control over precursor fluxes impinging onto the heated substrate surface so that the incorporation rates of all elements corresp ...

A compact platform to integrate emitters in a cavity-like support is to embed quantum dots (QDs) in a photonic crystal (PhC) structure, making them promising candidates for integrated quantum photonic circuits. The emission properties of QDs can be modifie ...

We demonstrate the reversible control of interactions between a local molecular spin, hosted within an iron phthalocyanine (FePc) molecule, and the conduction electrons of a supporting Au(111) surface. Using the tip of a scanning tunneling microscope, we d ...

Low-dimensional materials exhibiting stable magnetic ordering are interesting from a fundamental point of view as well as for future application in information technologies. Metalorganic magnets, created by linking metal atoms with specific organic molecul ...

Selective area epitaxy (SAE), applied to semiconductor growth, allows tailored fabrication of intricate structures at the nanoscale with enhanced properties and functionalities. In the field of nanowires (NWs), it adds scalability by enabling the fabricati ...

In recent years, the automotive industry has aspired to bring self-driving vehicles to the general public and light detection and ranging (LiDAR) sensors have emerged as the preferred solution for car vision systems. At present, LiDAR technologies employ e ...

GaN exhibits a decomposition tendency for temperatures far below its melting point and common growth temperatures used in metal-organic vapour phase epitaxy (MOVPE).This characteristic is known to be a major obstacle for realising GaN bulk substrate. There ...

The escalating energy demand and the imperative necessity to reduce the carbon footprint require transformative approaches to energy conversion. Materials chemistry plays a pivotal role in addressing these global challenges by developing novel materials fo ...

The rising atmospheric level of carbon dioxide, CO2, contributes to climate change and poses urgent need to find scalable solutions both to decrease its emissions and to be able to recycle it, if the goals of Paris Agreement to limit the temperature rise a ...

The development of cost-effective and earth-abundant semiconducting materials is imperative for the sustainable deployment of photovoltaic technology. Zinc phosphide (Zn3P2) is a promising candidate for terawatt-scale electricity generation. It has a near- ...

In this work, we demonstrate that GaN can be directly grown at high temperature on Si(111) substrates by metalorganic CVD without using any intentional AlN buffer, by simply employing a trimethylaluminum (TMAl) preflow. We found that n-GaN layers directly ...

The set of finite binary matrices of a given size is known to carry a finite type AA bicrystal structure. We first review this classical construction, explain how it yields a short proof of the equality between Kostka polynomials and one-dimensional sums t ...

Superlattice formation afforded by metal halide perovskite nanocrystals has been a phenomenon of interest due to the high structural order induced in these self-assemblies, an order that is influenced by the surface chemistry and particle morphology of the ...

We present a numerical model for the approximation of multiphase flows with free surfaces and strong interfacial effects. The model relies on the multiphase incompressible Navier-Stokes equations, and includes surface tension effects on the interfaces betw ...

Successful application of diffusion chronometry is based on detailed knowledge of diffusion parameters obtained from laboratory experiments, which also need to be upscaled to be applied to natural samples. While generally applicable, several examples of di ...

Efficient and robust n-i-p perovskite solar cells necessitate superior organic hole-transport materials with both mechanical and electronic prowess. Deciphering the structure-property relationship of these materials is crucial for practical perovskite sola ...

One of the most promising platforms for the realization of spin-based quantum computing are planar germanium quantum wells embedded between silicon-germanium barriers. To achieve comparably thin stacks with little surface roughness, this type of heterostru ...

We present two open-source Python packages: "electron spectro-microscopy"(espm) and "electron microscopy tables"(emtables). The espm software enables the simulation of scanning transmission electron microscopy energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy datacubes ...
