The work presented in this thesis is focused on the design and discovery of new luminescent, porous, crystalline materials for targeted applications. In particular, we focus on luminescent Metal-Organic Frameworks (MOFs) and Organic Molecules of Intrinsic ...

Functional printing is a versatile mass production method that has gained considerable scientific and industrial attention in the past few years. A wide range of electronics from passive circuit components (e.g., resistors and interconnects) to high-perfor ...

Sensors capable of detecting and classifying volatile organic compounds (VOC) have been gaining more attention by the advent of internet-of-things (IoT) enabled devices and integration of various sensing elements into hand-held and portable devices. The re ...

Bioelectronic and neuroprosthetic interfaces rely on implanted microelectrode arrays (MEAs) to interact with the human body. Printing techniques, such as inkjet and screen printing, are attractive methods for the manufacturing of MEAs because they allow fl ...

Customizable solar cells are required for aesthetic indoor and outdoor photovoltaic deployment as well as for the freedom of design of small and portable power supplies. We demonstrate that drop on demand inkjet printing can be used for the fabrication of ...

Quantum Integrated Photonics (QIP) harnesses quantum-states of light on tiny chips, from generation to processing and eventual detection. Within this context, this thesis explores functional QIP elements resulting from the monolithic integration of semicon ...

Printed electronics has promised to deliver low-cost, large-area and flexible electronics for mass-market applications for some time; however, so far one limiting factor has been device performance. Over the last decade, great progress has been made in ter ...

Recent years have seen spectacular developments in the domain of nano-optics. Alongside the well-known techniques of super-resolution microscopy progress in nanofabrication has enabled important improvements in the fields of optical imaging and spectros ...

The internal fields in 2.2nm thick InGaN quantum wells in a GaN LED structure have been investigated by using aberration-corrected off-axis electron holography with a spatial resolution of better than 1nm. To improve the spatial resolution, different types ...

A multimaterial inkjet printing method for integrated soft multifunctional machines is reported, combining dense arrays of electrostatic actuators, multilayer electrical routing, and complex networks of microfluidic channels in one printing process. Most a ...

Relatively weak red photoluminescence of carbon dots (CDots) is a major challenge on the way to their successful implementation in biological and optoelectronic devices. We present a theoretical analysis of the interaction among the surface emission center ...

Lead halide perovskites exhibit great potential for light-emitting devices. Enhanced photoluminescence (PL) is obtained in perovskite materials of reduced dimensionalities due to the large exciton binding energy. However, as the nanocrystal size is reduced ...

We propose a novel combination of two-photon polymerization (2PP) three-dimensional (3D) micro-manufacturing with drop-on-demand inkjet printing (DOD IJP) to fabricate 3D microporous scaffolds embedded with minute quantities of releasable drug. We designed ...
