Cavitation bubbles, extensively investigated in fluid mechanics, present enduring challenges in hydraulic machinery, while holding considerable potential for practical applications in biomedicine and sonochemistry. Despite more than a century of research, ...

Tim-domain near-infrared optical tomography (TD NIROT) techniques based on diffuse light were gaining performance over the last years. They are capable of imaging tissue at several centimeters depth and reveal clinically relevant information, such as tissu ...

This paper analyzes the relative distribution of annual saturation and contrast effects of discomfort glare in a deep open-plan office. A previous comparative study has shown that while hybrid glare metrics were found to predict glare well in most scenario ...

Background: Testing the hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR) at low-altitude helps to detect those who do not hyperventilate appropriately in hypoxia but might not necessarily predict the HVR and the risk to develop acute mountain sickness (AMS) at high alti ...

Burtscher, Martin, Michael Philadelphy, Hannes Gatterer, Johannes Burtscher, Martin Faulhaber, Werner Nachbauer, and Rudolf Likar. Physiological responses in humans acutely exposed to high altitude (3480 m): Minute ventilation and oxygenation are predictiv ...

Oxygenation of a tumor is one of the most important predictive factors: hypoxia is associated with aggressive tumors and substantially lower survival rate. Despite this high relevance of tumor oxygenation, there is currently no bedside technique available ...

The interaction between a ruthenium - based water soluble oxygen probe ([Ru(Phen)3]2+, phen - phenanthroline) and human serum albumin (HSA) was investigated with the aim of describing the influence of HSA on the [Ru(Phen)3]2+ luminescence properties. Nowad ...

The determination of the oxygen partial pressure (pO(2)) in real time in living biological tissues is of high interest for numerous therapeutics, including photodynamic therapy (PDT) and radiotherapy. The minimally invasive and real-time measurement of the ...

The present study aimed to compare sleep disordered breathing during live high-train low (LHTL) altitude camp using normobaric hypoxia (NH) and hypobaric hypoxia (HH). Sixteen highly trained triathletes completed two 18-day LHTL camps in a crossover design ...

PurposeTo determine a relationship between the retinal vessel saturation alterations and the residual retinal function measured by means of full-field electroretinography (full-field ERG), electrooculogram (EOG) and multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) i ...

Tumor vasculature is known to be poorly organized leading to increased leakage of molecules to the extravascular space. This process can potentially increase interstitial fluid pressure impairing intra-tumoral blood flow and oxygen supply, and can affect d ...

Measuring tissue oxygenation in vivo is of interest in fundamental biological as well as medical applications. One minimally invasive approach to assess the oxygen partial pressure in tissue (pO(2)) is to measure the oxygen-dependent luminescence lifetime ...

Purpose: To study the influence of retinal structural changes on oxygen saturation in retinitis pigmentosa (RP) patients. Methods: Oximetry measurements were performed on 21 eyes of 11 RP patients and compared to 24 eyes of 12 controls. Retinal oxygen satu ...

The wetting of angular alumina particle preforms by Cu-Sn alloys is investigated by means of pressure infiltration experiments conducted at 1150 A degrees C, using a system enabling dynamic and precise measurements of the metal volume injected into the pre ...

Continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the gold standard treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. However, the physiologic impact of CPAP on cerebral blood flow (CBF) is not well established. Ultrasound can be used to estimate CBF, but there is no wid ...

The behavior toward oxygen sensing of nanocomposites made of the aluminum oxide-hydroxide nanostructured solid support (AP200/19) and neutral blue emitting cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes was studied. The results are compared with the same dyes immob ...

Al95.5Cr2.5Si2(N1-xOx) thin films were prepared using pulsed DC-magnetron sputtering at 650 degrees C by changing the oxygen to nitrogen ratio (O-2/(O-2 + N-2)) in the reactive gas. The obtained films were characterized by various techniques including XRD, ...

Industrial filamentous fungal fermentations are typically operated in fed- batch mode. Oxygen control represents an important operational challenge due to the varying biomass concentration. In this study, oxygen control is implemented by manipulating the s ...

Nitrous oxide is the third most important gas contributing to global warming and its concentration in the atmosphere is still on the rise. Nitric acid production represents the largest source of N2O in the chemical industry, with a total annual emission of ...
