Water as a medium poses a number of challenges for robots, limiting the progress of research in underwater robotics vis-a-vis ground or aerial robotics. The primary challenges are satellite based positioning and radio communication being unusable due to hi ...

A vehicle's steering is a particular system in that it is exposed to individual subjective reviews based on criteria that are hard to assess quantitatively. Haptic design of such systems is a prime concern that has been at the center of industrial developm ...

The vehicle sharing systems (VSSs) are becoming more and more popular due to both financial and environmental effects. On the other hand, they face many challenges, such as inventory management of the vehicles and parking spots, imbalance of the vehicles, ...

Electric vehicle charging facilities offer their capacity constrained electric charge and parking to users for a fee. As electric vehicle adoption grows, so too does the potential for excessive resource utilization. In this paper, we study how prices set b ...

Atomistic simulations are a powerful complement to experimental probes for understanding the nanoscale processes associated with the effects of hydrogen (H) on plasticity and fracture that are the underlying causes of hydrogen embrittlement (HE). Current e ...

Understanding the link between the brain's anatomy and its function through computer simulations of neural tissue models is a widely used approach in computational neuroscience. This technique enables rapid prototyping and testing of hypotheses, allowing r ...

Underwater manipulation is a challenging problem. The state of the art is dominated by Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROV). ROV operations typically require an offshore crew consisting of at least an intendant, an operator, and a navigator. This crew often ha ...

Calcium carbonate (CaCO3) is one of the most abundant biominerals that is prevalent in rocks and often used as a structural material in marine animals. Many of these natural CaCO3-based materials display excellent mechanical properties that are difficult t ...

One-way electric vehicle carsharing systems are receiving increasing attention due to their mobility, environmental, and societal benefits. One of the major issues faced by the operators of these systems is the optimization of the relocation operations of ...

The convergence of sensor-based vehicle automation and Inter-Vehicle Communication (IVC) will be a key to achieve the full automation of vehicles. In this paper we present a new method for the design and performance evaluation of Cooperative Automated Driv ...

The surface of aqueous solutions of simple salts was not the main focus of scientific attention for a long while. Considerable interest in studying such systems has only emerged in the past two decades, following the pioneering finding that large halide io ...

The degree of intelligence built-in in today's vehicles in constantly on the rise. The vehicles are being equipped with sensors, with the goal to estimate the state of the vehicle and the environment surrounding it. Intelligent algorithms that process the ...

We present a machine learning framework to simulate realistic galaxies for the Euclid Survey, producing more complex and realistic galaxies than the analytical simulations currently used in Euclid. The proposed method combines a control on galaxy shape par ...

The electrification of private mobility is becoming a popular solution to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. However, uncontrollable charging of a large electric vehicle fleet challenges the distribution grid due to transmission bottlenecks, voltage limi ...

We propose a multi-robot tracking method to provide state estimates that allow a group of robots to maintain a formation even when the communication fails. We extend a Gaussian Mixture Probability Hypothesis Density filter to incorporate, firstly, absolute ...
