Robustness and stability of image-reconstruction algorithms have recently come under scrutiny. Their importance to medical imaging cannot be overstated. We review the known results for the topical variational regularization strategies ( ℓ2 and ℓ1 regulariz ...

In part I, we address the issue of existence of solutions for Cauchy problems involving nonlinear hyperbolic equations for initial data in Sobolev spaces with scaling subcritical regularity. In particular, we analyse nonlinear estimates for null-forms in t ...

In this article, we establish novel decompositions of Gaussian fields taking values in suitable spaces of generalized functions, and then use these decompositions to prove results about Gaussian multiplicative chaos. We prove two decomposition theorems. Th ...

We consider sample path properties of the solution to the stochastic heat equation, in Rd or bounded domains of Rd, driven by a Levy space-time white noise. When viewed as a stochastic process in time with values in an infinite-dimensional space, the solut ...

We sharpen an estimate of [4] for the topological degree of continuous maps from a sphere Sdinto itself in the case d >= 2. This provides the answer for d >= 2 to a question raised by Brezis. The problem is still open for d = 1. (C) 2017 Academie des scien ...

We study various aspects of stochastic partial differential equations driven by Lévy white noise. This driving noise, which is a generalization of Gaussian white noise, can be viewed either as a generalized random process or as an independently scattered r ...

In this paper, we propose the mathematical and finite element analysis of a second-order partial differential equation endowed with a generalized Robin boundary condition which involves the Laplace--Beltrami operator by introducing a function space $H^1(\O ...

This is a survey paper on estimates for the topological degree and related topics which range from the characterizations of Sobolev spaces and BV functions to the Jacobian determinant and nonlocal filter problems in Image Processing. These results are obta ...

We consider two basic problems of algebraic topology: the extension problem and the computation of higher homotopy groups, from the point of view of computability and computational complexity. The extension problem is the following: Given topological space ...

A variational technique is used to derive analytical expressions for the sensitivity of several topological indicators of flow separation to steady actuation. Considering the boundary layer flow above a wall-mounted bump, the six following representative q ...

We introduce an adaptive continuous-domain modeling approach to texture and natural images. The continuous-domain image is assumed to be a smooth function, and we embed it in a parameterized Sobolev space. We point out a link between Sobolev spaces and sto ...

The characteristic functional is the infinite-dimensional generalization of the Fourier transform for measures on function spaces. It characterizes the statistical law of the associated stochastic process in the same way as a characteristic function specif ...

In the two-well problem we look for a map u which satisfies Dirichlet boundary conditions and whose gradient Du assumes values in SO (2) A boolean OR SO (2) B = S-A boolean OR S-B, for two given invertible matrices A, B (an element of SO (2) A is of the fo ...

The purpose of this paper is to give the classification of the Bott-Virasoro coadjoint orbits, with nonzero central charge, in the functional analytic setting of smooth Hilbert manifolds. The central object of the paper is thus the completion of the Bott-V ...

Let G a locally compact group, H a closed subgroup and 1 < p < ∞. It's well-known that the restriction of the functions from G to H is a surjective linear contraction from Ap(G) onto Ap(H). We prove, when H is amenable, that every element in Ap(H) with com ...

Using arguments developed by De Giorgi in the 1950's, it is possible to prove the regularity of the solutions to a vast class of variational problems in the Euclidean space. The main goal of the present thesis is to extend these results to the more abstrac ...

We consider a large class of quasilinear second order elliptic systems of the form - ∑α,β=1N aαβ(x,u(x)),∇u(x))∂2αβu(x) + b(x,u(x),∇u(x)) = 0, where x varies in an unbounded domain Ω of the Euclidean space RN and u = (u1,...,um) is a vector of functi ...
