In the context of smart cities, ensuring road safety is crucial due to increasing urbanization and the interconnected nature of contemporary urban environments. Leveraging innovative technologies is essential to mitigate risks and create safer communities. ...

pNEUMA is an open large-scale dataset of naturalistic trajectories of half a million vehicles that have been collected by a one-of-a-kind experiment by a swarm of drones in the congested downtown area of Athens, Greece. A unique observatory of traffic cong ...

A vehicle's steering is a particular system in that it is exposed to individual subjective reviews based on criteria that are hard to assess quantitatively. Haptic design of such systems is a prime concern that has been at the center of industrial developm ...

This paper studies the routing and charging behaviors of electric vehicles in a competitive ride-hailing market. When the vehicles are idle, they can choose whether to continue cruising to search for passengers, or move a charging station to recharge. The ...

Electric vehicle charging facilities offer their capacity constrained electric charge and parking to users for a fee. As electric vehicle adoption grows, so too does the potential for excessive resource utilization. In this paper, we study how prices set b ...

The electrification of private mobility is becoming a popular solution to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels. However, uncontrollable charging of a large electric vehicle fleet challenges the distribution grid due to transmission bottlenecks, voltage limi ...

The field of artificial intelligence is set to fuel the future of mobility by driving forward the transition from advanced driver-assist systems to fully autonomous vehicles (AV). Yet the current technology, backed by cutting-edge deep learning techniques, ...

This thesis introduces new operational management policies for two types of on-demand shared mobility systems, the now well-studied one-way carsharing systems and a new innovative semi-autonomous last-mile transportation system. In addition, two associated ...

Vehicle emissions are a major contributor of air pollution in urban areas, with severe consequences for public health and the environment. This paper focuses on analyzing vehicle emissions in a multimodal urban context to better understand its determinants ...

Semi-autonomous transportation systems are an intermediate step towards full automation of transportation systems. They use and benefit from the technological advances brought by automation while being already implementable at larger scale under the curren ...

Fast-charging stations that supply energy to electrical vehicles at high power rates may incorporate energy storage to avoid high currents to the grid and reduce peak-demand costs. We demonstrate the potential for utilizing such infrastructure for the prov ...

Significant shares of regional passenger railway still rely on pollutive diesel vehicles. Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens, and Stadler have reacted and recently announced Battery Electric and Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (BEVs and FCEVs). In this paper, we anal ...

The dynamic electric autonomous Dial-a-Ride Problem (e-ADARP) is a generalization ofthe dial-a-ride problem which employs electric Autonomous Vehicles (e-AVs) to provide sharedrides to on-line requests. The goal of the dynamic e-ADARP is to maximize the nu ...

This paper i) compares parametric and semi-parametric representations of unobserved heterogeneity in hierarchical Bayesian logit models and ii) applies these methods to infer distributions of willingness to pay for features of shared automated vehicle (SAV ...

The present invention relates to a motor-wheel for an omni-directional motion vehicle, comprising a ring-shaped structure with a central axis, presenting an outer radial surface and an inner radial surface, whereby the outer radial surface comprises a plur ...

Problem definition: Vehicle-to-grid increases the low utilization rate of privately owned electric vehicles by making their batteries available to electricity grids. We formulate a robust optimization problem that maximizes a vehicle owner’s expected profi ...

The new era of “big data” requires going past the current conventional methods for gathering traffic information that until now depend either on fixed-area sensors or GPS devices. Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) or just "drones" have been proposed as a moder ...

The vehicle sharing systems (VSSs) are becoming more and more popular due to both financial and environmental effects. On the other hand, they face many challenges, such as inventory management of the vehicles and parking spots, imbalance of the vehicles, ...

For an autonomous car, getting surprised is the worst thing that can happen. To prevent that, plenty of studies are trying to forecast traffic participants’ actions especially in an urban scene using recurrent networks. Recurrent networks are used for temp ...
