This work presents a detailed breakdown of the energy conversion chains from intermittent electricity to a vehicle, considering battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs). The traditional well-to-wheel analysis is adapted to a ...

Electric buses are particularly suitable for city and suburban routes due to zero local exhaust and noise emissions. The operation schedule interval defines the charging power, bus fleet size and total cost of ownership of a bus. We propose a novel cost-be ...

The convergence of sensor-based vehicle automation and Inter-Vehicle Communication (IVC) will be a key to achieve the full automation of vehicles. In this paper we present a new method for the design and performance evaluation of Cooperative Automated Driv ...

One-way electric vehicle carsharing systems are receiving increasing attention due to their mobility, environmental, and societal benefits. One of the major issues faced by the operators of these systems is the optimization of the relocation operations of ...

The degree of intelligence built-in in today's vehicles in constantly on the rise. The vehicles are being equipped with sensors, with the goal to estimate the state of the vehicle and the environment surrounding it. Intelligent algorithms that process the ...

Automated mobility on demand is foreseen as the future of urban passenger mobility. While mixed-traffic for autonomous and conventional vehicles could be considered, separation amplifies the benefits of automation. Combined with mobility as a service, sepa ...

Internal combustion engines are the most applied energy converters in passenger cars. In order to increase their efficiency, energy integration techniques are used to recover waste heat. An adapted methodology is required to design the organic Rankine cycl ...

Nowadays, reassignments of hard shoulders into traffic lanes are spreading across Europe. This traffic management measure allows to respond to the growing saturation of high-capacity roads. In Switzerland, the first stretch to be equipped in such a way was ...

Formation building and keeping among vehicles has been studied for many years, since 1987 with Reynold's rules. This paper presents a control algorithm, based on recent work in graph theory, able to reconfigure static formations of non-holonomic vehicles e ...
