Colorectal cancer (CRC) is among the three most commonly diagnosed cancers and one of the major causes of cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Despite the discovery of several predictive biomarkers, the 5-year survival rate for metastatic CRC is 15%. A ...

Cysteine cathepsins proteases are enzymes that play essential physiological roles, but their activity is also associated to different aspects of cancer progression and to the development of other diseases. Therefore, cysteine cathepsins are relevant and pr ...

Heterochromatin loss and genetic instability enhance cancer progression by favoring clonal diversity, yet uncontrolled replicative stress leads to mitotic catastrophe and inflammatory responses that promote immune rejection. KRAB domain-containing zinc fin ...

Inflammation stands as a dynamic and intricate biological process, promoting vital defence mechanisms against harmful stimuli, including infections and injuries, to drive pathogen clearance and healing. On one hand, these responses can manifest acutely and ...

Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is a highly effective pathogen infecting nearly a third of the world's population. An M. tuberculosis infection starts when droplets containing bacteria enter an individual's lungs. The first host cells to contact the bacteria ar ...

Lymphomas are a group of heterogeneous blood cancers that arise from lymphocytes. The two primary clinical classifications of lymphomas are Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL), and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). In particular, B-cell lymphoma refers to the malignancies ...

Genomic instability enhances cancer progression by favoring clonal diversity, yet uncontrolled replicative stress can lead to mitotic catastrophe and inflammatory responses promoting immune rejection. KRAB-containing zinc finger proteins (KZFPs) are epigen ...

A series of Ga(Q(n))(3) coordination compounds have been synthesized, where HQ(n) is 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-RC(=O)-pyrazolo-5-one. The complexes have been characterized through analytical data, NMR and IR spectroscopy, ESI mass spectrometry, elemental analysi ...

Retinoblastoma is the most common pediatric eye cancer. It is currently treated with a limited number of drugs, adapted from other pediatric cancer treatments. Drug toxicity and relapse of the disease warrant new therapeutic strategies for these young pati ...

Vimentin is a main type 3 intermediate filament protein. It seems that abnormal expression of vimentin is contributed to the appearance of the aggressive feature of cancer cells. So that it has been reported that malignancy and epithelial-mesenchymal trans ...

Protein-based therapeutics, such as monoclonal antibodies and cytokines, are important therapies for various pathophysiological conditions such as oncology, autoimmune disorders, and viral infections. However, the wide application of such protein therapeut ...

Proteins secreted by cells play significant roles in mediating many physiological, developmental, and pathological processes due to their functions in intra/intercellular communication and signaling. Conventional end-point methods are insufficient for unde ...

Solid cancers exhibit a dynamic balance between cell death and proliferation ensuring continuous tumour maintenance and growth(1,2). Increasing evidence links enhanced cancer cell apoptosis to paracrine activation of cells in the tumour microenvironment in ...

Inhibition of the eIF4A RNA helicase with silvestrol and related compounds is emerging as a powerful anti-cancer strategy. We find that a synthetic silvestrol analogue (CR-1-31 B) has nanomolar activity across many cancer cell lines. It is especially activ ...

Follicular lymphoma (FL) is an incurable form of B-cell lymphoma. Genomic alterations that inactivate RB signaling are surprisingly common in indolent FL. We show that FLs that are positive for phosphorylated RB respond to dual CDK4/BCL2 inhibition. Our re ...

Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection is associated with an increased risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). Even in the era of suppressive antiretroviral treatment, HIV-infected individuals remain at higher risk of developing NHL compared to the gener ...

The mechanism-of-action of many electrohilic drugs remains poorly understood. Here, the authors use a redox-targeting approach to elucidate the basis for the innate immune cell toxicity of dimethyl fumarate, showing that it modifies Keap1 to trigger mitoch ...

Annonaceae family has broad uses in herbal medicine for treatment of several diseases, whether through seeds' or leaves' extracts. The present study investigates the antiproliferative and antitumor activity of Annona cherimola aqueous leaf (AAL) extract/in ...

Genomic alterations in cancer cells can influence the immune system to favor tumor growth. In non-Hodgkin lymphoma, physiological interactions between B cells and the germinal center microenvironment are coopted to sustain cancer cell proliferation. We fou ...

Bruton's tyrosine kinase (Btk) is a key component of BCR signaling required for B-cell maturation and activation. Loss-of-function mutations throughout the Btk protein cause human X-linked agammaglobulinemia (XLA), a heritable genetic disorder characterize ...
