Lithium cations are shown to have a significant role on catalyzing oxygen and proton reduction along with SN1 reactions in biphasic systems. We propose that this catalytic effect is due to the surprising acidity of the hydrated cations; interactions betwee ...

Nitranilic acid (2,5-dihydroxy-3,6-dinitro-2,5-cyclohexadiene-1,4-dione) as a strong dibasic acid in acidic aqueous media creates the Zundel cation, H5O2+. The structural unit in a crystal comprises (H5O2)(2)(+)(2,5-dihydroxy-3,6-dinitro-1,4-benzoquinonate ...

Hydrogen bonding in ionic liquids based on the 1-(2'-hydroxylethyl)-3-methylimidazolium cation (C(2)OHmim) and various anions (A) of differing H-bond acceptor strength, viz. hexafluorophosphate PF6, tetrafluoroborate BF4, bis-(trifluoro ...

One central aim of nanotechnology is the creation and exploitation of nanostructured materials with pre-programmed architecture and properties. The fabrication of functional nanostructures relies on versatile protocols of synthetic chemistry enabling the p ...

The modelling platform mu ic [1] has been used to investigate the mechanisms occurring during the hydration of alite. It is shown that it is possible to obtain a good simulation of the hydration kinetics through the implementation of two mechanisms: a diss ...

The electrochemical stability of ionic liquids based on the 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium EMIM cation and three different anions, dicyanoamide (N(CN)(2)), tricyanomethanide (C(CN)(3)) and tetracyanoborate (B(CN)(4)), has been investigate ...

Iodine added to iodide-based ionic liquids leads to dramatic changes of their physical properties which may have implications for technological applications. Here we study the phase diagram of 1-methyl 3-propylimidazolium iodide, the temperature versus iod ...

Iodine added to iodide-based ionic liquids leads to extraordi- narily efficient charge transport, vastly exceeding that expect- ed for such viscous systems. Using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy, in conjunction with dc conductivity, diffusivity and visc ...

A method for the Friedel-Crafts-type insertion reaction of acetylene with acid chlorides in chloroaluminate ionic liquids is presented. The use of Ionic liquids not only serves to avoid the use of carbon tetrachloride or 1,2-dichloroethane but also suppres ...

The achievement of high ionic conductivity in single-ion conducting polymer electrolytes is one of the important aims for various electrochemical devices including modern lithium batteries. One way to enhance the ionic conductivity in polyelectrolyte syste ...
