Amid a data revolution that is transforming industries around the globe, computing systems have undergone a paradigm shift where many applications are scaled out to run on multiple computers in a computing cluster. As the storage and processing capabilitie ...

The subconvexity problem aims at providing non-trivial (i.e. subconvex) bounds for central values of automorphic L-functions; the main conjecture in this area is the Generalized Lindelof Hypothesis which itself is a consequence of the Generalized Riemann H ...

Future deep HI surveys will be essential for understanding the nature of galaxies and the content of the Universe. However, the large volume of these data will require distributed and automated processing techniques. We introduce LiSA, a set of python modu ...

The constant flux of data and queries alike has been pushing the boundaries of data analysis systems. The increasing size of raw data files has made data loading an expensive operation that delays the data-to-insight time. To alleviate the loading cost, in ...

The field of genomics is likely to become the largest producer of data as a consequence of the large-scale application of next-generation sequencing technology for biological research and personalized medical treatments. The raw sequence data produced by t ...

Complete genomes can be recovered from metagenomes by assembling and binning DNA sequences into metagenome assembled genomes (MAGs). Yet, the presence of microdiversity can hamper the assembly and binning processes, possibly yielding chimeric, highly fragm ...

An important prerequisite for developing trustworthy artificial intelligence is high quality data. Crowdsourcing has emerged as a popular method of data collection in the past few years. However, there is always a concern about the quality of the data thus ...

We study vector-valued solutions u(t, x) is an element of R-d to systems of nonlinear stochastic heat equations with multiplicative noise, ...

Whole Genome Sequencing is a process in the field of bioinformatics that transforms biological samples of DNA into an electronic dataset of genetic bases. The process consists of two sequential components. First, the laboratory process of sequencing transf ...

Weighted flow time is a fundamental and very well-studied objective function in scheduling. In this paper, we study the setting of a single machine with preemptions. ...

Most encrypted data formats leak metadata via their plaintext headers, such as format version, encryption schemes used, number of recipients who can decrypt the data, and even the recipients’ identities. This leakage can pose security and privacy risks to ...

Conjugation spaces are equipped with an involution such that the fixed points have the same mod 2 cohomology (as a graded vector space, a ring, and even an unstable algebra) but with all degrees divided by 2, generalizing the classical examples of complex ...

Twenty years have passed since first light for the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Here, we release data taken by the fourth phase of SDSS (SDSS-IV) across its first three years of operation (2014 July-2017 July). This is the third data release for SDSS-I ...

Many research questions involve time-to-event outcomes that can be prevented from occurring due to competing events. In these settings, we must be careful about the causal interpretation of classical statistical estimands. In particular, estimands on the h ...

Core to many scientific and analytics applications are spatial data capturing the position or shape of objects in space, and time series recording the values of a process over time. Effective analysis of such data requires a shift from confirmatory pipelin ...

The current trend towards personalized medicine creates an urgent need to share data among different hospitals and health institutions, which endangers the privacy of the data subjects if not done with the appropriate precautions. Conversely, the frequency ...

This work is concerned with approximating a trivariate function defined on a tensor-product domain via function evaluations. Combining tensorized Chebyshev interpolation with a Tucker decomposition of low multilinear rank yields function approximations tha ...

As the volume of produced data is exponentially increasing, companies tend to rely on distributed systems to meet the surging demand for storage capacity. With the business workflows becoming more and more complex, such systems often consist of or are acce ...

The impressive technological advances in genomic analysis and the significant drop in the cost of genome sequencing are paving the way to a variety of revolutionary applications in modern healthcare. In particular, the increasing understanding of the human ...

While the basic greedy algorithm gives a semi-streaming algorithm with an approximation guarantee of 2 for the unweighted matching problem, it was only recently that Paz and Schwartzman obtained an analogous result for weighted instances. Their approach is ...
