Far-UVC light sources in the spectral range of200-230 nm effectively kill bacteria and deactivate viruses while being not harmful to health, enabling persistent disinfection of air and surfaces in the presence of humans. So far only excimer lamps have been ...

A thermal diode, which, by analogy to its electrical counterpart, rectifies heat current, is the building block for thermal circuits. To realize a thermal diode, we demonstrate thermal rectification in a GaAs telescopic nanowire system using the thermal br ...

The invention of the laser in the 1960s heralded a new era in photonics. Owing to both, academic and industrial research, photonics technologies have long become part of our everyday life. This PhD thesis explores two subfields of laser technologies: Frequ ...

We report the first, to our knowledge, observation of the nonlinear phenomenon known as modulation instability (MI) in a coherently driven fiber resonator pumped at 1972 nm. To compensate for the very high losses in this spectral region, we have integrated ...

On-chip coherent light generation has wide-ranging applications in metrology, spectroscopy, quantum optics, etc. In this study, we demonstrate the generation of coherent light from a silicon-nitride microring resonator using cascaded nonlinear processes. T ...

Second harmonic generation microscopy is used to image interfaces or non-centrosymmetric structures and molecules. Two-photon fluorescence microscopy can image molecules within cells without using markers. Thus those technics have lead to advances in our u ...

The utilization of MHPs in optoelectronics has surged over the past decade due to their favorable properties such as direct band gaps, a large JDOS near the band edge resulting in strong optical absorption, and high defect tolerance allowing operation clos ...

Miniaturization has been at the forefront of scientific research in the past decade covering diverse areas such as electronics, mechanics, and optics. While 'small is beautiful' may be a vast generalization, the true benefits of miniaturization are especia ...

In this contribution, a complete dissertation concerning the behavior of a Long Period Grating (LPG) inscribed in a B-Ge co-doped optical fiber by means of an excimer laser and exposed to proton irradiation during a recent extensive campaign performed at t ...

A light pulse source (100), being adapted for generating repetitive optical pulses (1), comprises a continuous wave cw laser device (10) being arranged for providing cw laser light (2), an optical waveguide (20) being optically coupled with the cw laser de ...

We have recorded the diffraction patterns from individual xenon clusters irradiated with intense extreme ultraviolet pulses to investigate the influence of light-induced electronic changes on the scattering response. The clusters were irradiated with short ...

The information age we live in today relies on highly integrated devices. They are fabricated with the help of photolithography, the patterning technique at the heart of their production. With the continuous demand for higher integration density to achieve ...

Laser-induced forward transfer (LIFT) technique is an emerging micro additive manufacturing (AM) technique that has been widely used to print a variety of materials. Distinguished from other nozzle-based AM techniques, LIFT operates without the existence o ...

A continuous improvement of resolution in mask-aligner lithography is sought after to meet the requirements of an ever decreasing minimum feature size in back-end processes. For periodic structures, utilizing the Talbot effect for lithography has emerged a ...

We introduce a novel industrial grade 193nm continuous-wave laser light source for proximity mask-aligner lithography. A diode seed laser in master-oscillator power-amplification configuraton is frequency-quadrupled using lithiumtriborate and potassium-fluoro ...

Chip-based, single-frequency and low phase-noise integrated photonic laser diodes emitting in the violet (412 nm) and blue (461 nm) regime are demonstrated. The GaN-based edge-emitting laser diodes were coupled to high-quality on-chip micro-resonators for ...

Combining optical gain in direct-bandgap III-V materials with tunable optical feedback offered by advanced photonic integrated circuits is key to chip-scale external-cavity lasers (ECL), offering wideband tunability along with low optical linewidths. Exter ...

Thermal scanning probe lithography (t-SPL) is an advanced lithography technique in which a heated atomic force microscope tip locally modifies a sample material. Due to the nanometer-sized tip apex diameter, t-SPL enables patterning of sub-10 nm structures ...

We present a novel industrial-grade prototype version of a continuous-wave 193 nm laser system entirely based on solid state pump laser technology. Deep-ultraviolet emission is realized by frequency-quadrupling an amplified diode laser and up to 20 mW of o ...

Early works(1) and recent advances in thin-film lithium niobate (LiNbO3) on insulator have enabled low-loss photonic integrated circuits(2,3), modulators with improved half-wave voltage(4,5), electro-optic frequency combs(6) and on-chip electro-optic devic ...
