Hybrid organic/inorganic materials have contributed to solve important challenges in different areas of science. One of the biggest challenges for a more sustainable society is to have active and stable catalysts that enable the transition from fossil fuel ...

In the past decades, atomically controlled multicomponent nanomaterials have served as platforms to advance the understanding of scientific phenomena along with providing practical solutions for various applications. Colloidal chemistry and atomic layer de ...

We report a one-step synthetic strategy to encapsulate copper nanocrystals (Cu NCs) in a carboxylate-based metal organic framework (MOF-74) to construct Cu@Cu-MOF-74 hybrids. One of the hurdles to realizing metal NC@MOF hybrids with uniform morphology and ...

Liquid metals (LMs) have been used in electrochemistry since the 19th century, but it is only recently that they have emerged as electrocatalysts with unique properties, such as inherent resistance to coke-poisoning, which derives from the dynamic nature o ...

The combination of porous reticular frameworks and nanocrystals (NCs) offers a rich playground to design materials with functionalities, which are beneficial for a large variety of applications. Achieving compositional and structural tunability of these hy ...

To date, copper is the only monometallic catalyst that can electrochemically reduce CO2 into high value and energy-dense products, such as hydrocarbons and alcohols. In recent years, great efforts have been directed towards understanding how its nanoscale ...

Electrochemical CO2 reduction (CO2R) is an attractive option for storing renewable electricity and for the sustainable production of valuable chemicals and fuels. In this roadmap, we review recent progress in fundamental understanding, catalyst development ...

Correlating the catalyst activity, selectivity, and stability with its structure and composition is of the utmost importance in advancing the knowledge of heterogeneous electrocatalytic processes for chemical energy conversion. Well-defined colloidal nanoc ...

Despite being desirable high-value products of the electro-chemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR), alcohols are still obtained with lower selectivity compared to hydrocarbons and the reaction pathways leading to their formation are still under debate. In ...

Previous work carried out in fully liquid environ-ments and at low current densities has demonstrated that highly uniform faceted copper nanocrystals display different selectivity profiles in CO2 reduction compared to polycrystalline copper. As part of ong ...

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals (NCs) are promising components in various optoelectronic and photocatalytic devices; however, the mechanism of energy transport in these materials remains to be further understood. Here, we investigate the distance depe ...

The ability to tailor make materials with atomic scale precision is crucial for understanding the sensitivities of their performance parameters and for achieving the design specification corresponding to optimal device operation. Herein, this topic is disc ...

Hybrid materials constructed from the assembly of inorganic building blocks and organic linkers have shown unique properties and applications. Superstructures of semiconductor magic-sized nanoclusters linked by diamines now join this class of materials. ...

Colloidal nanocrystals (NCs) are active materials in different applications, wherein their shape dictates their properties, such as optical or catalytic properties, and, thus, their performance. Hence, learning to tune the NC shape is an important goal in ...

Solid-state reactions between micrometer-size powders are among the oldest, simplest, and still widely used methods for the fabrication of inorganic solids. These reactions are intrinsically slow because, although the precursorsare "well mixed" at the macr ...

The product selectivity in the electrochemical reduction of carbon dioxide depends on the structure of the copper electrode. Cube-shaped copper catalysts, enclosed by {100} terraces, {110} edges, and {111} corners, exhibit a size-dependent enhanced only se ...

Here we show that sub-micron coatings of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs) and even ZIF-ZIF bilayers can be grown directly on polymers of intrinsic microporosity from zinc oxide (ZnO) nanocrystal precursor films, yielding a new class of all-microporou ...

Herein, the assembly of CsPbBr3 QD/AlOx inorganic nanocomposites, by using atomic layer deposition (ALD) for the growth of the amorphous alumina matrix (AlOx), is described as a novel protection scheme for such QDs. The nucleation and growth of AlOx on the ...

In the CO2 reduction reaction, the design of electrocatalysts that selectively promote alcohols over hydrocarbons (e.g., ethanol over ethylene) hinges on the understanding of the pathways and specific sites that form alcohols. Herein, theoretical considera ...

The electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) holds the promise to revolutionize the chemical industry by producing value-added chemicals and fuels from CO2 and water while storing renewable energy. However, catalyst design still remains one of the ma ...
