Chemiluminescence, i.e. the emission of light from a chemical reaction, offers interesting opportunities for developing point-of-care biosensors. However, commercially available systems are expensive, bulky, and primarily addressed to laboratory usage. The ...

In the present work, a computational study is carried out investigating the relationship between the biosensing and the electrical characteristics of two-terminal Schottky- barrier silicon nanowire devices. The model suggested successfully reproduces compu ...

Over the past decade, memristive biosensors have demonstrated remarkable capabilities in biological detection. However, a notable limitation has been the loss of the memristive effect during biosensing operations. In this study, we introduce a memristive b ...

In this work, we have developed for the first time a method to make novel gold and platinum hybrid bimetallic nanostructures differing in shape and size. Au-Pt nanostructures were prepared by electrodeposition in two simple steps. The first step consists o ...

Digital image processing and epi-fluorescence microscopy provide one of the main and basic tools for living biological cells analysis and studying. Developing, testing and comparing those image processing methods properly require the use of a controlled en ...

This work presents a wearable microfluidic device for sweat analysis. The purpose of this device is to collect sweat from the skin and convey it to the sensor. The device is printed by a 3D printer with Multi-Jet Modelling (MJM) technology using flexible m ...

Reducing sensing time is one major concern in clinical diagnostics. In the present work, a robust measurement system is developed aiming at the faster and easier signal acquisition of memristive biosensors. Sensing chips consisting of nanofabricated silico ...

The key-point for the development of an amperometric sensor is the immobilization of the enzyme. In the present work we use biosensors based on glucose oxidase (GOD) onto electrodes nanostructured with carbon nanotubes (CNT), to be employed in cell culture ...

Memristors are the two-terminal components that complete the symmetry between the fundamental circuit variables, and they are highly suitable for bioinspired and neuralnetwork-based computational systems due to their inherent memory effect. In this paper w ...

High quality CMOS image sensors are of great importance for LoC - Lab-on-Chip devices based on optical measurements. The main target in these devices is to minimize the cost and area while achieving a good resolution. The performance parameters of image se ...

We report the first selective growth of nanographite petals and various carbon nanomaterials onto a multipanel electrochemical platform. Different types of nanomaterials can be obtained by fine-tuning the growth parameters of the chemical vapor deposition ...

This paper describes the electrochemical investigation of two multi-walled carbon nanotube-based electrodes using potassium ferricyanide as a benchmark redox system. Carbon nanotubes were fabricated by chemical vapor deposition on silicon wafer with campho ...

The paper reviews some popular techniques to harvest energy for implantable biosensors. For each technique, the advantages and drawbacks are discussed. Emphasis is placed to the inductive links, able to deliver power wirelessly through the biological tissu ...

Nowadays, there is an immense interest regarding new bio-sensing technologies, highlighting the need for effective validation of their capabilities. This necessity is more crucial when examining the proprieties of a sensor for continuous monitoring of a co ...

In this work we describe the realization of monometallic nanostructures by two simple electrodeposition steps. The surface of the modified electrode was characterized by scanning electron microscopy that confirms a homogeneous deposition of Pt nanospheres ...

Wearable devices, e.g. smart-watches, are gaining popularity in many fields and in wellness monitoring too. In this paper we propose an IoT application to alert the medical doctor assigned to a critical unit by using a smart-watch. The wearable device impr ...

Wearable physiology is an expanding field, especially for sports applications that steadily require an accurate monitoring of the physical status of athletes. This work presents the co-design and the realization of an hardware front-end that enables multi- ...

This paper represents the extended version of the conference paper “Developing highly-integrated subcutaneous biochips for remote monitoring of human metabolism” pre- sented at the IEEE Sensors Conference 2012, and presents data on assembly, packaging and ...

Biomedical sensing applications, including breath analysis, contribute to increasing the amount of electronic waste, as the sensors are frequently disposed, due to hygienic considerations. Consequently, the development of sustainable sensor solutions is cr ...

A Pencil Graphite Electrode (PGE) is herein disclosed. The electrode is characterized by a reduced content in graphite and an increased content in clay of the composite material composing it compared to the prior art PGEs. In particular, the PGE according ...
