Acquisition of three-dimensional (3D) spectral data is nowadays common using many different microanalytical techniques. In order to proceed to the 3D reconstruction, data processing is necessary not only to deal with noisy acquisitions but also to segment ...

In this work a combination of advanced transmission electron microscopy and spectroscopy techniques enabled a statistically significant analysis of various types of few nanometer size oxides particles in Fe-14Cr-2W-O.3Ti-0.3Y(2)O(3) ferritic steel. These m ...

The ability to obtain three-dimensional (3-D) information about morphologies of nanostructures elucidates many interesting properties of materials in both physical and biological sciences. Here we demonstrate a novel method in scanning transmission electro ...

Molecular dynamics simulations were performed to estimate the dissociation energies of helium interstitials, vacancies and self-interstitial atoms from small helium-vacancy clusters. Several sets of empirical potentials have been tested and compared with a ...

structural defects induced by He implantation in GaN epilayer at high fluence (1 X 10(17) He/cm(2)) and elevated temperature (750 degrees C) have been studied by conventional and high resolution transmission electron microscopy. In addition to the planar i ...

The purpose of this study is to investigate the modes of vibration of the self-interstitial atoms and the vacancy in bcc iron and to estimate how the vibrational properties can affect the stability of these defects. The phonon density of states of the vaca ...

Small specimen test technology (SSTT) has long been an integral part of fusion materials development. Past work has led to an array of techniques that not only have provided a means of efficiently using available irradiation volumes but have also led to im ...

Deriving accurate three-dimensional (3-D) structural information of materials at the nanometre level is often crucial for understanding their properties. Tomography in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) is a powerful technique that provides such inform ...

We study the state of a nanometric helium bubble in bcc-iron as a function of temperature and He content using atomistic calculations. It appears that up to moderate temperatures the Fe lattice can confine He to solid state, in good agreement with known sol ...

We propose an original method for the determination of the physical properties of nanometer sized helium bubbles using spectrum imaging in an energy-filtered transmission electron microscope. Helium bubbles synthesized by high fluence implantation and ther ...
