We propose single-step additive fabrication of graded-index optical elements by introducing the light exposure as the additional dimension to three-dimensional (3D) laser writing, hence (3+1)D writing. We use a commercial printer and photoresist to realize ...

The present invention concerns a membrane-less electrolyzer comprising a fluidic channel for receiving an electrolyte fluid; a first electrode and a second electrode located inside the fluidic channel, the first and second electrode permitting to extract a ...

We demonstrate experimentally a scanning confocal microscopy technique based on digital holography. The method relies on digital holographic recording of the scanned spot. The data collected in this way contains all the necessary information to digitally p ...

The on-demand generation of viscous microdroplets to print functional or biological materials remains challenging using conventional inkjet-printing methods, mainly due to aggregation and clogging issues. In an effort to overcome these limitations, we impl ...

Light-induced space-charge fields in lithium niobate crystals are used to trap and manipulate dielectric particles on the surface of such crystals. Without any external voltage source, strong field gradients are present in the proximity of the crystal surf ...

Multimode fiber endoscopes have recently been shown to provide sub-micrometer resolution, however, imaging through a multimode fiber is highly sensitive to bending. Here we describe the implementation of a coherent beacon source placed at the distal tip of ...

In a previous paper, 1 we proposed an optofluidic modulator based on peristaltic flow. A microchannel made of polydimethylsiloxane is filled with nematic liquid crystal molecules that align homeotropically in the steady state. Once we apply a periodic peri ...

The present invention concerns a subsurface laser-induced optical breakdown (LIOB) catheter including a probe assembly for providing at least one optical pulse to a subsurface target biological tissue site; and a waveguide for guiding the at least one opti ...

A novel optical computing framework by harnessing spatiotemporal nonlinear effects of multimode fibers for machine learning is presented. With linear and nonlinear interactions of the spatial fiber modes, a brain-inspired computation engine is experimental ...

By integrating soft-lithography-based nanofluidics with silicon nanophotonics, we demonstrate dynamic, liquid-based addressing and high Δn/n (∼0.1) refractive index modulation of individual features within photonic structures at subwavelength length scales ...

Image delivery through multimode fibers (MMFs) suffers from modal scrambling which results in a speckle pattern at the fiber output. In this work, we use Deep Neural Networks (DNNs) for recovery and/or classification of the input image from the intensity-o ...

We report on a sapphire fiber Raman imaging probe's use for challenging applications where access is severely restricted. Small-dimension Raman probes have been developed previously for various clinical applications because they show great capability for d ...

Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED) microscopy enables subdiffraction resolution in the imaging plane. However, STED's lateral improvement in resolution is generally better than the enhancement in the axial direction. Here, we combine conventional STED su ...

The Shockley-Queisser limit predicts a maximum efficiency of 30% for single junction photovoltaic (PV) cells. The rest of the solar energy is lost as heat and due to phenomena such as reflection and transmission through the PV and charge carrier recombinat ...

Multimode fibers (MMFs) are an example of a highly scattering medium, which scramble the coherent light propagating within them to produce seemingly random patterns. Thus, for applications such as imaging and image projection through an MMF, careful measur ...

3D printing as a tool to generate complicated shapes from CAD files, on demand, with different materials from plastics to metals, is shortening product development cycles, enabling new design possibilities and can provide a mean to manufacture small volume ...

The second harmonic generation (SHG) active nanocrystals have been demonstrated as attractive imaging probes in nonlinear microscopy due to their coherent, non-bleaching and non-blinking signals with a broad flexibility in the choice of excitation waveleng ...

Flexible ultra-compact low-loss optical waveguides play a vital role in the development of soft photonics. The search for suitable materials and innovative fabrication techniques to achieve low loss long polymer optical waveguides and interconnects has pro ...
