The simultaneous recording of scalp electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) can provide unique insights into the dynamics of human brain function, and the increased functional sensitivity offered by ultra-high field fM ...

The concept of second order proton traps (consisting of an inductor and two capacitors) in coils for non-proton NMR allows control over the resonance frequency, the blocking frequency and the trap mode frequency. Effective proton traps with relatively high ...

In vivo (1)H MR spectroscopy allows the non invasive characterization of brain metabolites and it has been used for studying brain metabolic changes in a wide range of neurodegenerative diseases. The prion diseases form a group of fatal neurodegenerative d ...

At high magnetic field strengths (≥3T), the radiofrequency wavelength used in MRI is of the same order of magnitude of (or smaller than) the typical sample size, making transmit magnetic field (B 1+) inhomogeneities more prominent. Methods such as radiofre ...

Resting skeletal muscle has a preference for the oxidation of lipids compared to carbohydrates and a shift towards carbohydrate oxidation is observed with increasing exercise. Lactate is not only an end product in skeletal muscle but also an important meta ...

The representation of the human body in the human cerebellum is still relatively unknown, compared to the well-studied homunculus in the primary somatosensory cortex. The investigation of the body representation in the cerebellum and its somatotopic organi ...

With the use of localized 13C MRS in conjunction with [1-(13)C]-D-glucose infusion, it is possible to study brain glycogen metabolism in vivo. The purpose of this study was to validate in vivo 13C MRS measurements by comparing them with results from a stan ...

Hyperpolarization by dissolution dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) is a versatile technique to dramatically enhance the nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) signal intensity of insensitive long-T1 nuclear spins such as 6 Li. The 6 Li longitudinal relaxation o ...

This work investigates the possibility of using FID navigator signals to improve the performance of a recently proposed autofocusing-based retrospective motion correction technique. FID navigators were incorporated into an MP-RAGE sequence and 3 subjects w ...

A high throughput method was designed to produce hyperpolarized gases by combining lowtemperature dynamic nuclear polarization with a sublimation procedure. It is illustrated by applications to 129Xe nuclear magnetic resonance in xenon gas, leading to a si ...

Background: Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is a major risk factor for both perinatal and long-term morbidity. Bovine lactoferrin (bLf) is a major milk glycoprotein considered as a pleiotropic functional nutrient. The impact of maternal supplementat ...

Background and Purpose—Despite the improving imaging techniques, it remains challenging to predict the outcome early after transient cerebral ischemia. The aim of this study was thus to identify early metabolic biomarkers for outcome prediction. Methods—We ...

(Figure Presented) Chemical shifts of protons can report on metabolic transformations such as the conversion of choline to phosphocholine. To follow such processes in vivo, magnetization can be enhanced by dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP). We have hyperp ...

A dynamic nuclear polarization prepolarizer was developed and coupled to a 9.4 T rodent magnetic resonance imaging scanner in order to perform in vivo hyperpolarization experiments. In the present paper, emphasis is put on methods and hardware performance ...

In this investigation, high-resolution, 1x1x1-mm(3) functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) at 7 T is performed using a multichannel array head coil and a surface coil approach. Scan geometry was optimized for each coil separately to exploit the stren ...
