We present a longitudinal study on the participation regulation effects in the presence of a speech aware interactive table. This study focuses on training meetings of groups of top level managers, whose compositions do not change, in a corporate organizat ...

Teacher facilitation of CSCL activities is widely recognized as one of the main factors affecting student learning outcomes in formal face-to-face settings. However, the orchestration load that such facilitation represents for the teacher, within the const ...

Augmented reality (AR) has recently received a lot of attention in education. Multiple AR systems for learning have been developed and tested through empirical studies often conducted in lab settings. While lab studies can be insightful, they leave out the ...

In this article we investigate the role of interactive haptic-enabled tangible robots in supporting the learning of cursive letter writing for children with attention and visuomotor coordination issues. We focus on the two principal aspects of handwriting ...

Jupyter is a web-based, interactive computing environment that supports many commonly-used programming languages. It has been widely adopted in the CS education community and is now rapidly expanding to other STEM disciplines due to the growing integration ...

Tangible user interfaces (TUIs) have been the focus of much attention recently in the HCI and learning communities. Although TUIs seem to intuitively offer potential to increase the learning experience, there have been questions about whether they actually ...

In this paper, we explored the effect of a robot’s subconscious gestures made during moments when idle (also called adaptor gestures) on anthropomorphic perceptions of five year old children. We developed and sorted a set of adaptor motions based on their ...

The present invention concerns a magnet-assisted ball drive. The drive comprises a ball and a drive element in contact with the ball. The drive element is arranged to be rotated around its axis of rotation to drive the ball. The ball and the drive element ...

This article considers the suitability of current robots designed to assist humans in accomplishing their daily domestic tasks. With several million units sold worldwide, robotic vacuum cleaners are currently the figurehead in this field. As such, we will ...

: Prior work has successfully described how low and high-performing dyads of students differ in terms of their visual synchronization (e.g., Barron, 2000; Jermann, Mullins, Nuessli & Dillenbourg, 2011). But there is far less work analyzing the diversity of ...

Teachers’ self-efficacy in managing classrooms is an important consideration when it comes to bringing educational robots to classrooms. Orchestration tools support teachers by providing awareness indicators of students’ progress as well as levers to contr ...

What encourages people to refer to a robot as if it was a living being? Is it because of the robot’s humanoid or animal-like shape, its movements or rather the kind of inter- action it enables? We aim to investigate robots’ characteristics that lead people ...

In this paper, we describe the efforts in taking advantage of the latest IT developments, (especially of the development of mobile computing devices such as tablets or phones) to create a comprehensive architecture for face-to-face meetings support and gro ...

We propose a gaze-based indicator of students’ attention in a MOOC video lecture. We report the results from an eye-tracking study during a MOOC lecture. We define the gaze- based indicator of students’ attention as “with-me-ness”. This answers a question ...

Handwriting is an important skill in children development as well as in education that take years to be mastered. While keyboards and similar technological devices increasingly become more popular, new tools and engaging approaches are also required to kee ...

Learner-Computer Interaction (LCI) research addresses the design, development and use of interactive technologies to support and amplify human learning. LCI is based on the rationale that learning while interacting with technology is a complex, multi-layer ...

We present the design and evaluation of an iPad application that will be used to operate the modular robots “Roombots”. Roombots are the building blocks for adaptive pieces of furniture. The application allows a user to arrange adaptive furniture within a ...

Embodiment has been known to have several benefits for learning. However, implementing embodied learning in a classroom with technologies such as Kinect, augmented, virtual and mixed reality and tangible objects is a challenge because of the infrastructura ...

In this paper, we propose that the data generated by educational robots can be better used by applying learning analytics methods and techniques which can lead to a deeper understanding of the learners’ apprehension and behavior as well as refined guidelin ...
