Nanoparticle (NP) catalysis is traditionally viewed as a sub-section of heterogeneous catalysis. However, certain properties of NP catalysts, especially NPs dispersed in solvents, indicate that there could be benefits from viewing them from the perspective ...

Bis-phosphine Ru(II)-arene complexes are highly active and chemoselective catalysts for the hydrogenation of aldehydes in the presence of olefinic bonds. Mechanistic studies, including comparisons with a structural analog, reactions of an isolated hydride ...

Drug discovery is a complex, multistep process, in which many challenges need to be overcome at each stage, from the discovery of a biomolecular target to the ensuring of the efficacy and safety of a compound in humans. Today's analytical methods allow ten ...

A new series of higher generation cationic N,N-chelating, ruthenium(II)-ethylene-glycol metallodendrimers from first-, second-, third- and fourth-generation pyridylimine-based poly(propylene) dendrimer scaffolds of the type, DAB-(NH2) (where n = 4, 8, 16 o ...

We show that ionic liquids (ILs) interact with electron-rich, porous polyphosphazene (PPZ), to form hybrid PPZ-IL nanoreactors able to simultaneously capture and transform CO2 into carbonates. The PPZ nanospheres swell in organic solvents and effectively a ...

Following the identification of a ruthenium(II)-arene complex with an ethacrynic acid-modified imidazole ligand, which inhibits glutathione transferase (GST) and is cytotoxic to chemo-resistant cancer cells, a series of structurally related ruthenium(II)- ...

Cancer cells are often dependent on epigenetic pathways for their survival. Consequently, drugs that target the epigenome, rather than the underlying DNA sequence, are currently attracting considerable attention. In recent years, the first epigenetic drugs ...

Aim of the study The tumor metastases targeting ruthenium complex NAMI-A synergistically improves the activity of gemcitabine in combination therapies. High-throughput screening was used to identify other potential drug combinations from a library of FDA a ...

Hole-transporting materials (HTMs) based on the 10H, 10 ' H-9,9 '-spirobi [acridine] core (BSA50 and BSA51) were synthesized, and their electronic properties were explored. Experimental and theoretical studies show that the presence of rigid 3,6-dimethoxy- ...

In order to utilize macromols. for drug targeting and delivery, a strategy to tether organometallic ruthenium-arene drugs to carrier protein mols. was developed. The approach involves the design of a drug fragment capable of conjugating to linker mols. on ...

RAPTA compounds, ([Ru(eta(6)-arene)(PTA)Cl-2], PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane), have been reported to overcome drug resistance in cisplatin resistant cells. However, the exact mechanism of these complexes is still largely unexplored. In this study, ...

The in vitro activity of a series of ruthenium clusters, [(η6-C6H6)(η6-C6Me6)2Ru3(μ-H)3(μ3-O)][BF4], [(η6-C6H6)(η6-1,4-iPrC6H4Me)(η6-C6Me6)Ru3(μ-H)3(μ3-O)][BF4], [(η6-C6H6)4Ru4(μ-H)4][BF4]2, [(η6-C6H5Me)4Ru4(μ-H)4][BF4]2 and [(η6-C6H6)4Ru4(μ-H)3(μ-OH)][Cl] ...

In this study, we report the synthesis and full characterization of five novel ruthenium(II) cymene complexes with the general formula [Ru(cym)(L’)Cl], featuring N,O- and N,N-coordinating pyrazolone-based hydrazone ligands. We have characterized these comp ...

The Diels-Alder reaction between cyclopentadiene and methyl acrylate in ionic liquids has been studied in detail. The effect of contamination of the ionic liquids by common impurities, viz. sodium and chloride ions, and water, on the selectivity has been i ...

Two neutral and two cationic half-sandwich Os(II)-arene metallodendrimers, of general formula [DAB-PPI-{(eta(6)-p-cym)Os((C7H5NO)-kappa(2)-N,O)Cl}(n)] and [DAB-PPI-{(eta(6)-p-cym)Os((C6H5N2)-kappa(2)-N,N)Cl}(n)]PF6 (where n = 4 (G1) or 8 (G2)) have be ...

A series of diiron/tetrairon compounds containing a S- or a Se-function (2a-d, 4a-d, 5a-b, 6), and the monoiron [FeCp(CO){SeC1(NMe2)(CHC3)-H-2(Me)}] (3) were prepared from the diiron mu-vinyliminium precursors [Fe2Cp2(CO)( mu-CO){mu-eta(1): eta(3)-C-3(R')( ...

The fragment-based approach is a well-established strategy for organic drug discovery. Recent studies have shown that this approach also has considerable potential in medicinal inorganic chemistry, and yet the approach has not been formally described. Here ...

Perovskite crystal facets greatly impact the performance and stability of their corresponding photovoltaic devices. Compared to the (001) facet, the (011) facet yields better photoelectric properties, including higher conductivity and enhanced charge carri ...

Caught in the act: The first stable η4-diseleno-p-benzoquinone complex, [Cp*lr(η4-C6H4Se2)], has been isolated. The X-ray structure confirms the coordination of the elusive diselenobenzoquinone intermediate. The anticancer activity of this complex was comp ...

Ruthenium compounds have become promising alternatives to platinum drugs by displaying specific activities against different cancers and favourable toxicity and clearance properties. Nonetheless, their molecular targeting and mechanism of action are poorly ...
