We demonstrate monocrystalline growth of GeSn on Ge and Si substrates by co-sputtering. We discuss the evolution of film growth with thickness, elucidating the effects of substrate temperature, sputtering source, and the importance of hydrogen dilution in ...

As the demand for photovoltaic technologies continues to grow, the quest for efficient and sustainable transparent conducting electrodes (TCEs) rapidly rises. Traditional solutions, such as indium tin oxide (ITO), face challenges related to indium scarcity ...

Incorporation of Mo into pure WO3 thin films is of interest for electrochromic devices, as it improves colour neutrality in the dark state. Existing literature still lacks reliable quantitative data on the complex dielectric function of such coatings. In t ...

Laminated and etched glazing unit for architectural integration of solar energy systems comprising a substrate delimited by two main faces and a multi-layered interference filter also delimited by two main faces, one main face of said substrate being adapt ...

Recently, the field of Metal-Insulator-Transition (MIT) materials has emerged as an unconventional solution for novel energy efficient electronic functions, such as steep slope subthermionic switches, neuromorphic hardware, reconfigurable radiofrequency fu ...

olar glazing unit, suitable for photovoltaic modules and solar thermal collectors, comprising a substrate delimited by two main faces and a multi-layered interference filter also delimited by two main faces, one main face of said substrate being adapted to ...

Electrochromic (EC) glazing helps manage daylight and solar heat gains in building, thereby allowing a reduction in energy consumption caused by heating, cooling, and artificial lighting. This study relates the optical and electronic properties of nanoporo ...

Novel mobile communication technology such as 5G will provide a more efficient and reliable platform for the development of the Internet of Things. However, microwaves in the range of 5G frequencies are strongly attenuated by modern energy-efficient glazin ...

One main barrier to the acceptability of façade use of solar thermal collectors is their black appearance and the visibility of piping or absorber irregularities through the glazing. To facilitate façade integration, a project was set up to develop selecti ...

This study explores the suitability of a basket -based solar cooker for cooking in Uganda, an equatorial country. The solar cooker is designed to be easily constructed and based on recycled and locally available materials. Its performance in terms of cooki ...

Thin films of pure vanadium oxide (VOx) and Ge doped vanadium oxide (VOx:Ge) have been deposited by reactive magnetron sputtering on Si (100) substrates. These films were characterized by means of in situ X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet ph ...

Junctions between n-type semiconductors of different electron affinity show rectification if the junction is abrupt enough. With the advent of 2D materials, we are able to realize thin van der Waals (vdW) heterostructures based on a large diversity of mate ...

Solar cooking is one possible solution to reduce the domination of fossil fuel in the domestic sector and to benefit from renewable energy. This study assesses the solar cooking potential in Switzerland. A nodal model, based on energy balance equations of ...

Architectural integration of solar technologies in the built environment is a challenge: one of the key tasks is the identification of homogeneous zones of intervention as a function of the solar energy potential and “criticity”, a combination of the socio ...

A glazing for daylighting and seasonal thermal control, the glazing including a pane defined between an outside-oriented interface and an inside-oriented interface, the pane comprising a first component and a second component, wherein the first component h ...

A new generation of smart solar thermal collectors is based on thermochromic thin film technology. Thermochromic absorber coatings change their optical properties with temperature, particularly in the infrared range. In order to prevent overheating, the co ...

We report a thorough investigation of the electrically-induced metal-insulator transition in vanadium dioxide (VO2) for abrupt switching in 2-terminal devices (0.24 mV/dec at 25 °C, 0.38 mV/dec at 50 °C). We exploit the electrothermal actuation model based ...

A survey has been conducted as part of the European project SOLABS (unglazed coloured solar absorbers for building facades) to provide the design team with a set of formal design guidelines. Targeted mainly at European architects of the three climatic regi ...

The article presents the design, fabrication and characterization of a novel complementary metal-oxidesemiconductor (CMOS) compatible reconfigurable Ka band bandstop structure using split ring resonators (SRR) while employing the Vanadium Dioxide (VO2) pha ...

In this paper, we report the preparation of the precursor solutions for the deposition of Cu-Co-Mn-Si oxides by a sot-gel method in order to produce black selective coatings for CSP receiver tubes. Their optical properties were investigated by means of spe ...
