A good catch: N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) form stable adducts with nitrous oxide (N2O) under mild reaction conditions. The adducts display unique reactivity as evidenced by an alkylation reaction which leads to a rupture of the NN bond. ...

Sequential enyne cross-metathesis reactions of arylalkynes with ethylene followed by atom transfer radical addition (ATRA) with ethyl dichloroacetate or dichloroacetonitrile provide 1,5-dichloropent-2-ene derivatives. The second-generation Grubbs alkyliden ...

Vinyl triazenes were obtained by enantioselective [2+2] cycloaddition reactions of bicyclic alkenes with 1-alkynyl triazenes in the presence of a RuII catalyst with a chiral cyclopentadienyl ligand. These triazenes serve as unique vinyl cation surrogates. ...

The cyclopentadienyl Ru complexes CpRuCl(cod) (cod = 1,5-cyclooctadiene), CpRuCl(PPh3)2, and [CpRuCl2]2 (Cp = η5-1-methoxy-2,4-di-tert-butyl-3-neopentylcyclopentadienyl) are able to catalyze the decomposition of benzyl azides to give 1,3,5-triphenyl-2,4- ...

Natural and synthetic purine derivatives such as caffeine, theophylline, 6-mercaptopurine and 8-chlorotheophylline are important drugs. Due to the structural similarity of these compounds, it is intrinsically difficult to prepare chemosensors for their sel ...

Nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas", is formed as a by-product in several industrial processes. It is also readily available by thermal decomposition of ammonium nitrate. Traditionally, the chemical valorization of N 2 O is achieved via oxidati ...

A mixture of two amphiphiles with fluorescent head groups can be used as a sensing ensemble for the pattern-based analysis of aminoglycoside antibiotics. In buffered aqueous solution, the amphiphiles form a dynamic mixture of micellar aggregates. In the pr ...

A mixture of the Pd(II) complex [Pd(NO3)2(bipy)] (bipy = 2,2-bipyridine) and the fluorescent dye Methylcalcein blue (MCB) constitutes a chemosensing ensemble which can be used for the detection of pyrophosphate (PPi) by fluorescence spectroscopy. The senso ...

Heteroditopic monomers containing an arylboronate ester and a dialkyl-4-aminopyridine group aggregate via dative boron–nitrogen bonds to give main chain supramolecular polymers. The degree of polymerization can be tuned by changing the electronic and steri ...

The 2-pyrone motif occurs frequently in bioactive natural products and is appreciated as synthetic intermediates. However, only few methods allow for diversifying functional group modifications on this relevant heterocycle. The distinct properties of 1-alk ...

The 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethylene unit is prevalent in bioactive molecules and functional materials. Despite being in principle a straightforward strategy to access this motif, the direct tetrafluorination of alkynes involves very hazardous or inconvenient r ...

Mixtures of dipeptide monomers create stereochemically and constitutionally complex dynamic libraries of potential receptors. When (−)-cytidine was utilized as guest an 84-membered cyclic host was amplified (70–175 fold) from a nearly undetectable initial ...

The three-component reaction of aryl boronic acids with 1,2,4,5-tetrahydroxybenzene and 1,2-bis(4-pyridyl)ethylene or 4,4-bipyridine leads to the formation of dark-purple boronate ester polymers. Crystallographic analyses show that the polymer strands have ...

The isomerization of iridium(III) complexes with metalated N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands was studied. The fac isomers of complexes with 1-phenyl-3-methylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene or 1-phenyl-3-benzylbenzimidazolin-2-ylidene ligands are transformed cl ...

Phosphane complexes of the putative formula [CoX2(dppe)] [X = Cl, Br, I; dppe = bis(diphenylphosphanyl)ethane] are frequently used catalyst precursors in cobalt-catalyzed reactions. Despite their widespread use, these complexes have not been structurally c ...

The colorimetric response of a sensor array composed of palladium–dye complexes can be used to identify different hexadeoxynucleotides and to distinguish mixtures of sequence-isomeric hexadeoxynucleotides. ...

The synthesis of water-sol., organometallic macrocycles is described. They were obtained by self-assembly in reactions of the half-sandwich complexes [{Ru(C6H5Me)Cl2}2], [{Ru(p-cymene)Cl2}2], [{Rh(Cp)Cl2}2], and [{Ir(Cp*)Cl2}2] with the ligand 5-dimethylam ...

The molecular forms of LiF, LiFHF and Na2SiF6 have been stabilized using trinuclear metallamacrocyclic complexes of (cymene)Ru-II, (Cp*)Rh-III and (Cp*)Ir-III as specific receptors. The host-guest complexes were characterized by NMR spectroscopy and single ...

The solvent-induced structural rearrangement of synthetic supramolecular structures typically requires a pronounced change in solvent polarity. We describe a ruthenium-based coordination cage, whose geometry and topology can be altered dramatically by usin ...

Nitrous oxide (N2O; ‘laughing gas’) is a powerful oxidant, but chemical transformations are hampered by the inert character of this gas. Recent advances in using N2O as an oxidant in metal-catalyzed reactions are discussed. The focus will be on reactions t ...
