Fusion proteins containing a first domain and a second domain, where the first domain contains a crosslinkable substrate domain and the second domain contains a fibrinolysis inhibitor, are provided. In a preferred embodiment, the fibrinolysis inhibitor is ...

Fully effective vaccines for complex infections must elicit a diverse repertoire of antibodies (humoral immunity) and CD8+ T-cell responses (cellular immunity). Here, we present a synthetic glyco-adjuvant named p(Man-TLR7), which, when conjugated to antige ...

Ureteral replacement by tissue engineering might become necessary following tissue loss after excessive ureteral trauma, after retroperitoneal cancer, or even after failed reconstructive surgery. This need has driven innovation in the design of novel scaff ...

The present invention provides methods and apparatus for coating surfaces with specially designed thioethers and amphiphilic thioethers that reduce protein adsorption and/or cell adhesion. This reduction may be achieved, for example, by controlling the spa ...

Placental growth factor (PlGF) is a critical mediator of blood vessel formation, yet mechanisms of its action and regulation are incompletely understood. Here we demonstrate that proteolytic processing regulates the biological activity of PlGF. Specificall ...

Large-scale experimentation is becoming instrumental in enabling new discoveries in systems biology and personalized medicine. We developed a multiplexed high-throughput nanoimmunoassay chip capable of quantifying four biomarkers in 384 5 nL samples, for a ...

Oxidn.-sensitive nanoparticles have been decorated with an oxidizing enzyme (glucose oxidase) for release behavior that is responsive to the presence of the enzyme substrate (glucose). [on SciFinder (R)] ...

Regenerative medicine requires innovative therapeutic designs to accommodate high morphogen concentrations in local depots, provide their sustained presence, and enhance cellular invasion and directed differentiation. Here we present an example for inducin ...

New approaches based on induction of antigen-specific immunological tolerance are being explored for treatment of autoimmunity and prevention of immunity to protein drugs. Antigens associated with apoptotic debris are known to be processed tolerogenically ...

The formation of scar tissue due to dedifferentiation of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) is one of the major issues faced when engineering bladder tissue. Furthermore, cell sources for regenerating the SMC layer are also limiting. Here we explore if human mesen ...

Polyethylenimine (PEI) is a promising gene carrier among polymeric vectors because of its high transfection efficiency, buffering capacity, which is responsible for its escape from endosomes, facility of modification, reasonable price and wide range of mol ...

Synergy in the downstream signaling pathways of the vascular endothelial growth factor receptor-2 (VEGFR-2) and the integrin alpha v beta 3 is critical for blood vessel formation. Thus, agents that activate both receptors could possess efficient pro-angiog ...

Urinary incontinence can be treated by endoscopic injection of bulking agents, however, no optimal therapeutic effect has been achieved upon this treatment yet. In the present study, the development of a injectable poly(acrylonitrile) hydrogel paste is des ...

Although urothelial progenitor-like cells have been described in the human urinary tract, the existence of stem cells remains to be proven. Using a culture system that favors clonogenic epithelial cell growth, we evaluated and characterized clonal human ur ...

Block copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol)-bl-poly(propylene sulfide) (PEG-PPS) have recently emerged as a new macromolecular amphiphile capable of forming a wide range of morphologies when dispersed in water. To understand better the relationship between s ...

An encoding/decoding apparatus and method using a low-density parity-check code (LDPC code) is disclosed. Basic column group information, serving as a set of information regarding positions of rows with weight 1, is extracted from a reference column in eac ...

Biomaterial matrices are being developed that mimic the key characteristics of the extracellular matrix, including presenting adhesion sites and displaying growth factors in the context of a viscoelastic hydrogel. This review focuses on two classes of mate ...

PEGDA hydrogels copolymerized with NVP using free-radical photopolymerization are used in biomedical applications. These networks consist of a poly(acrylate-co-vinyl pyrrolidone) backbone crosslinked with PEG chains whose crosslink density is dependent on ...

Embodiments of the invention are described, including materials and methods for making molecules and materials that have a specific binding domain of a P1GF2. Embodiments include, for instance, medicaments, biomaterials, biomolecules, molecular fusions, an ...

This manuscript reports a facile strategy for the modification of polyethylene, a widely used biomaterial, with a thin non-biofouling coating that can act as a platform to introduce biochemical cues to control and direct, e.g., cell adhesion and proliferat ...
