Textile reinforced concrete (TRC) is a cementitious‐based material where reinforcement consists of high‐strength noncorrosive textile fabrics. Due to the use of a noncorrosive reinforcement, cover requirements can be limited to minimum static values and th ...

This paper presents an investigation into the ultimate behavior of a recently developed design for keyed shear connections. The influence of the key depth on the failure mode and ductility of the connection has been studied by push-off tests. The tests sho ...

Currently, there is no generally-accepted theory giving a physical explanation of the shear strength in one- and two-way slabs. Furthermore, for members without transverse reinforcement, shear strength is estimated in most codes of practice following empir ...

Reinforced concrete (RC) flat slabs supported on columns are one of the most widely used structural systems for office and industrial buildings. In regions of medium to high seismic risk RC walls are typically added as lateral force resisting system and to increase the lateral stiffness and strength. Although slab-column systems are not expected to contribute to the lateral resistance of the structure due to their low stiffness, the slab-column connection have to have the capacity to follow the seismically

The presence of post-tensioning tendons in webs decreases the load-carrying capacity of the compression struts that are necessary to transfer shear forces. This effect has been known for a long time, but was initially not included in design codes. In parti ...

Advancing the knowledge about the punching behaviour of flat slabs has been held back by the fact that only indirect measurements of the internal failure mechanism have typically been available. In this paper, a novel experimental approach for tracking the ...

Openings in flat slabs near to columns are often needed to supply the building with utilities. The presence of these openings can lead to a decrease of the punching resistance which is related to (i) the reduction of the control perimeter, (ii) the stress ...

Despite the intensive efforts dedicated in the last decades to better understanding punching shear failures, there is still no consensus on the mechanics governing this phenomenon and on how to implement it within a physical approach. In this paper, an ana ...

In typical reinforced concrete design, reinforcement is designed to carry axial forces, but it can also resist transversal forces by dowel action. This is usually neglected for simplicity's sake in the design phase, but it can be accounted for either expli ...

Existing shear-cracked structures need to be reliably verified in order to avoid redundant interventions. Code provisions often raise shear safety and/or fatigue life concerns of the reinforcement subjected to stress concentrations due to cyclic dowel acti ...

This paper presents the results of six tests on R/C bridge cantilever slabs without shear reinforcement subjected to concentrated loading. The specimens represent actual deck slabs of box-girder bridges scaled 3/4. They were 10mlong with a clear cantilever ...

The provisions for punching shear around concentrated loads in the new Model Code 2010 (MC2010) have been updated, covering a large number of design cases such as slabs with and without transverse reinforcement, different column/slab geometries and prestre ...

The bond response of deformed bars in structural concrete is a phenomenon governed, to a large extent, by the rib-to-concrete contact and interaction, with contact forces depending on both material properties and the kinematics between the contact surfaces ...

The safety of existing concrete slabs against shear may be insufficient for several reasons such as design and construction errors, structural modifications or increased loads. Moreover, the knowledge about shear design has significantly increased over the ...

Reinforced concrete slabs without shear reinforcement subjected to concentrated loads near linear sup- ports are usually designed or assessed in shear using design provisions that have been calibrated on the basis of tests on one-way slabs or beams with re ...

The performance of 11 different shear reinforcement systems against punching of inner slab-column connections under gravity loading was compared on the basis of experiments on 12 full-scale specimens, 8 of them newly reported. The slab geometry and flexura ...

The ultimate strength of reinforced concrete slabs is frequently governed by the punching shear capacity, which may be increased with addition of traditional fitments such as reinforcing steel, headed studs or shear heads. In addition to these traditional ...

This paper presents the results of an experimental research on the influence of prestressing on the punching shear strength of flat slabs. The tests refer to 13 geometrically identical specimens 250 mm thick that were loaded in order to investigate the inf ...

Arch-shaped members are widely used for construction of tunnels, bridges, silos and shells. These members are not typically provided with transverse reinforcement and may thus have a brittle behaviour at failure. When subjected to bending or shear, traditi ...

Most classic investigations on bonding properties in reinforced concrete have been performed on the basis of pull-out tests, where a reinforcement bar is pulled out from an uncracked concrete cylinder, prism or cube. In these tests, the bond is governed by ...
