The water soluble ruthenium(II) complex [RuCl2(PTA)([9]aneS3)] (PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphadamantane, [9]aneS3 = 1,4,7-trithiacyclononane) catalyzes the hydrogenation of CO2 and bicarbonate in aqueous solution. ...

A homogenous catalytic system has been developed that efficiently and selectively decomposes formic acid into hydrogen and carbon dioxide. [Ru(H2O)6]2+, [Ru(H2O)6]3+ and RuCl3·xH2O are all excellent precatalysts in presence of TPPTS (TPPTS=meta-trisulfonat ...

One of the limiting factors to a hydrogen-based economy is associated with the problems storing hydrogen. Many different approaches are under evaluation and the optimum approach will not be the same for all applications, i.e., static, mobile, small and lar ...

The use of formic acid as a hydrogen-storage material has become more feasible thanks to the development of a homogeneous catalytic system of ruthenium water-soluble complexes (Ru/TPPTS; TPPTS=meta-trisulfonated triphenylphosphine) that selectively decompo ...

The hydrogenation of benzene and other arenes under aqueous-organic biphasic conditions is evaluated using the ruthenium complexes Ru(eta(6)-C10H14)(pta)Cl-2 (pta=1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane), Ru(eta(6)-C10H14)(tppts)Cl-2 (tppts=tris-3-sulfonatophenylphosphine trisodium salt) and Ru(eta(6)-C10H14)(pta)(2)Cl. The active catalysts formed during the hydrogenations correspond to a trinuclear cluster, a colloid and a mononuclear complex, respectively.

The reactions of (eta(6)-C6H6)RuCl2 and (eta(6)-p-cymene)RuCl2 With hydrogen in the presence of the water-soluble phosphines tppts (meta-trisulfonated triphenylphosphine) and pta (1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane) afforded as the main species (eta(6)- C6H6)RuH(tppts)(2), (eta(6)-C6H6)RuH(pta)(2), (eta(6)-p-cymene)RuH(tppts)(2) and (eta(6)-p-cymene)RuH(pta)(2). This latter complex was also formed in the reaction of [(eta(6)-p-cymene)RuCl2(pta)] and hydrogen with a redistribution

N-methylation of amines is an important step in the synthesis of many pharmaceuticals and has been widely applied in the preparation of other key intermediates and chemicals. Therefore, the development of efficient methylation methods has attracted conside ...

In aqueous solutions, RuCl2(TPPMS)(2) (TPPMS = 3-sulfonatophenyldiphenylphosphine) catalyzes the exchange between H-2 and D2O or between D-4 and H2O with high efficiency (up to 1 252 turnovers per hour) under mild conditions (298 K, 2 MPa H-2). The exchange rate strongly depends on the solution pH. Similar H/D exchange is observed with the water soluble tertiary phosphine complexes [RhCl(TPPMS)(3)], [RhCl(TPPTS)(3)] and [RuCl2(PTA)(4)] as catalysts (TPPTS = tris(3-sulfonatophenyl)phosphine. PTA = 1,3,5

The equilibrium between [Ce(H2O)9]3+ and [Ce(H2O)8]3+ has been followed in aqueous solution at 298 K by variable‐pressure UV spectroscopy at 295 nm. The dervied volume of reaction for the dissociation of this enneaaqua ion is ΔV 0 = +10.9 cm3. mol−1. This value, together with the previously determined activation volume, ΔV ≠ = −6 cm3. mol−1, for H2O exchange on [Ln(H2O)8]3+ (Ln = Tb to Tm), allows the assignment of an associative interchange I a mechanism on these octaaqua ions.

Dehydrohalogenation of haloaromatics in ionic liquids derived from ethylmethylimidazolium or similar salts has been performed using Pd-C, Pd(OAc)2 and other catalysts using formate salts as a hydrogen source. In the ionic liquid [emim][BF4< ...

The solubility of carbon monoxide in 37 ionic liquids and in some organic solvents has been determined using high-pressure C-13 NMR spectroscopy; a method for predicting the CO solubility is demonstrated, and it was shown that the rate of the hydroformylation of 5-hexen-2-one does not correlate with the CO solubility, as expected from the determined relative solubility of CO compared to H-2.

Reaction of RuCl3 with 1-[2-(1,4-cyclohexadiene-1-yl)alkyl]-3-methylimidazolium chloride (alkyl = Et, butyl) and 1-[2-(1,4-cyclohexadiene-1-yl)ethyl]-2,3-dimethylimidazolium chloride affords a series of dimeric ruthenium complexes of the type [RuCl2(η6-are ...

In a water/chlorobenzene biphasic reaction, the hydrogenation of trans-cinnamaldehyde, catalyzed by water-soluble Ru(II)-phosphane complexes at pH 3.04 (phosphate buffer), produces a 61:39 mixture of cinnamyl alcohol and dihydrocinnamaldehyde at 1 bar H-2; however, the selectivity is increased to 93:7 by increasing the hydrogen pressure to 8 bar.

The hydrogenation of benzene and other arene substrates under biphasic conditions is evaluated using the catalyst precursor Ru(eta(6)-C10H14)(pta)Cl-2 (pta = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane) immobilised in water and 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ionic liquids. The effect that contamination of the 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ionic liquids with chloride has on the hydrogenation reaction has also been examined. Of the immobilisation solvents tested the optimum solvent was fou

In aqueous solutions under mild conditions, Ru(H2O)(6) was reacted with various water-soluble tertiary phosphines. As determined by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, reactions with the sulfonated arylphosphines L = mtppms, ptppms and mtppts yielded only the mono- and bisphosphine complexes, Ru(H2O)(5)L, cis-Ru(H2O)(4)L-2, and trans-Ru(H2O)(4)L-2 even in a high ligand excess. With the small aliphatic phosphine L = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphatricyclo-[3.3.1.1(3,7)]decane (pta) at [L] : [Ru] =
