Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) has become a kind of positioning standard due to the high penetration rate of this technology on mass market intelligent transportation systems (ITS) applications. However, this positioning technique remains a rea ...

The workshop on mapping with drones for natural and built environments has been organised in the framework of the Brazilian-Swiss Joint Research Programme (BSJRP), which supports research activity and academic cooperation. The Ecole polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) is the leading house of the BSJRP and had approved the project proposed by the Geodetic engineering laboratory (TOPO) from EPFL with the Brazilian partners: Universidade Estadual Paulista Júlio de Mesquita Filho (UNESP), Universidade de

Les nouvelles technologies de l’information révolutionnent l’organisation de notre société avec un impact sur le monde du travail, sur notre rapport avec les autres et sur notre mobilité. Le domaine des transports avec ses multiples challenges liés à la ge ...

A safer mobility is a key concern for the strategy of the European governments and automotive industries. At the moment, a new generation of Intelligent Integrated Transport Safety Systems (IITSS) offers a promising potential to address this issue. Such co ...

The deployment of autonomous vehicles is becoming a reality on the European road network and will significantly affect the future liability of different actors in the road and transport sectors. Liability is strongly linked with the trust that you can have in a system, like a vehicle with advanced driver assistance or automatic driving capabilities. In these applications the vehicle positioning is one of the most critical components because most of the decisions are based on the location of the vehicle itse

In this paper the perturbation influence properties of the stochastic model (variance-covariance) in linear models is discussed in detail. Some very useful formulae are established about the variance-covariance perturbation influence on the model parameter estimation. Then, the influence properties are analyzed in different cases and illustrated by two examples.

This presentation gives an overview of the NEARCTIS project and the role of new technologies (navigation, positioning, communication) in the cooperative traffic management.

This paper presents a cell-based approach for computing the deformation of a monitored object by analyzing point cloud data from terrestrial lidar. This approach can automatically generate an informative deformation description (called "deformation map") w ...

Presentation of a concept for robust indoor navigation. The concept is based on three key elements: - the use of an absolute geographical reference - the hybridisation of complementary technologies - specific motion models. This concept is illustrated by the means of two applications: the urban displacement of blind people and the indoor guidance of fire-fighters

The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) has introduced the Moodle Learning Management System (LMS) in 2005. Since then, the number of teachers and users has increased rapidly. With more than 350 active courses hosted on Moodle for this ...

Navigation systems are becoing standard in-vehicle equipment. In the future these technologies will take place in new systems called Intelligent Integrated Road Safety Systems. Reaching this high level of integration and these requirements needs more precise digital map databases and advanced navigation technologies.

Teaching geomatics is a continuous challenge with the evolution of technologies which enables more and more accurate measurement and modelling of the environment. This paper will present an original pedagogical approach based on a teaching unit gathering s ...

The evolution of technologies makes surveying accessible to a broader community of professionals and students. Therefore, teaching geomatics is a continuous challenge. This article presents an original pedagogical approach based on a teaching unit gatherin ...

The development or road telematics requires the management of continuously growing road databases. Mobile mapping systems can acquire this information, while offering an unbeatable productivity with the combination of navigation and videogrammetry tools.

Presentation of the COST Action TU 1302 SaPPART on Satellite Positioning Performance for Road Transport. SaPPART brings together experts in GNSS, ITS and mobility to address the open issues and guarantee the success of the standardisation for underpinning certification initiatives.

EGNOS (European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service) sera le système d'augmentation satellitaire européen. Il améliorera la performance des deux systèmes satellitaires militaires GPS (Global Positioning System) et GLONASS (Global Navigation Satellite System).

Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) is becoming one of the main components supporting Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and value-added services in road transport and personal mobility. The use of GNSS is expected to grow significantly due to impr ...

The Swiss curvilinear coordinate system for road data is currently under review. The geodetic laboratory at EPFL has designed a mobile system for the automatic determination of the road geometry: the Photobus.
