Standard reeducation methods for paraplegic people rely on manual or robotic mobilization on a treadmill. However in both cases the motion is generated by an exterior force, the training is thus called passive. In this context the Swiss Fondation for Cyber ...

Background The identification of specific clot characteristics before mechanical thrombectomy (MTB) might allow the selection of the most effective first-line technique, thus potentially improving the procedural outcome. We aimed to evaluate if the microwi ...

Hip exoskeletons are known for their versatility in assisting users across varied scenarios. However, current assistive strategies often lack the flexibility to accommodate for individual walking patterns and adapt to diverse locomotion environments. In th ...

In this paper, we propose a novel time-varying feedback control strategy based on the Robust Integral of the Sign of the Error (RISE). The main motivation is to enhance the tracking performance of RISE controller at high dynamic operating conditions. RISE ...

Background: Efficient gait assistance by augmentative exoskeletons depends on reliable control strategies. While numerous control methods and their effects on the metabolic cost of walking have been explored in the literature, the use of different exoskele ...

Exoskeletons intended for partial assistance of walking should be able to follow the gait pattern of their users, via online adaptive control strategies rather than imposing predefined kinetic or kinematic profiles. NeuroMuscular Controllers (NMCs) are ada ...

Over the last decade, active lower-limb prostheses demonstrated their ability to restore a physiological gait for transfemoral amputees by supplying the required positive energy balance during daily life locomotion activities. However, the added-value of s ...

One of the big research topics in modern cosmology is the mystery of dark Energy. To unveil the secret, cosmologists want to measure precisely the evolution of large scale structures in the universe. One way of doing so is to measure the 3D location of a h ...

In this paper, a hybrid nonlinear proportional-derivative-sliding mode controller (NPD-SMC) is developed for the trajectory tracking of robot manipulators. The proposed controller combines the advantage of the easy implementation of NPD control and the rob ...

Robots are excellent tools for providing motion. Their motion is precise, stiff and as repeatable as we need. This led the Swiss Foundation for Cyberthosis (SFC) to exploit robotics jointly with the muscle electrostimulation as intelligent rehabilitation d ...

Exoskeletons are a perfect example of a mechatronics product. They illustrate the close integration and interdependence of mechanical design, drive train, sensors, control strategy and user interface. Recent developments of our lab will be discussed in det ...

This paper presents a novel functional electrical stimulation paradigm to generate locomotion in paraplegic patients. We propose a closed-loop surface functional electrical stimulation (sFES) of 16 lower-limb muscles to produce all subphases of the gait. T ...

In this paper we present a motorized hip orthosis to assist elderly people while walking, stair climbing and during the sit-to-stand transitions. The design is based on biomechanics considerations. Ranges of motion, velocities and torques of the hip joint ...

The invention concerns an exoskeleton made of elements combined or attached together, said elements being adjustable or not and said elements being made in a sandwich construction. The invention also concerns a method to manufacture such an exoskeleton. ...

Projects such as "The Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument" (DESI) [1] or "The Multi Object Optical and Near-infrared Spectrograph" (MOONS) [5] are developing spectrographs, composed of more than thousand of optical fibers in a confined hexagonal focal pla ...

Robotic devices are well suited for providing motion to the patient and information (positions, forces, etc.) to the therapist. The FSC and LSRO are combining their effort in the development of robotic re-education devices, focusing on active rehabilitatio ...

The capture system developed for the ADRIOS project is presented. The mechanical simulator as well as the control engine are presented.

This paper investigates sensorimotor adaptation strategies of sagittal postural control in healthy subjects under kinematic constraints. A passive exoskeleton named CAPTUR, with locked ankle joints and legs motion restrained to the sagittal plane is used t ...

We describe here a novel design of a fast high-density robotized fiber positioner system for massive spectroscopic surveys. The fiber positioners are compact, robust, and they can be coordinated, allowing for a high spatial density. Furthermore, the high a ...
