This paper deals with an energy-autonomous wireless sensing system with an indirect measurement of the light energy for ambient lighting sensing. The system can perform power measurements without battery or external power sources and generates time-domain ...

This paper presents a frequency synthesizer based on a phase locked loop (PLL) targeting low jitter applications. The frequency generator covers a range wider than a decade, more explicitly from 20 to 300 MHz. Thanks to a 4-stage ring oscillator, it can pr ...

A new fully integrated two-stage operational transconductance amplifier-capacitor (OTA-C) sine oscillator circuit configuration using a 0.5 μm CMOS digital process is described. A simple linear impedance analysis is presented to predict the amplitude and distortion of oscillation. The accuracy of this approach is examined by comparing calculated, simulated and measured results. Transconductance tuning keeps the startup condition satisfied within the frequency range from 2 to 11 MHz.

This work discusses the remote powering link of a passive UHF RFID tag for sensor applications. The design, implementation, and measurements of the base-station antenna, tag antenna, and the rectifier are presented. The base-station antenna is a 50 Ω recta ...

A new structure of low-power demodulator named 'separated-Vb' amplitude shift keying (ASK) demodulator is proposed. The circuit is based on the switching behavior of the core digital shaper with different bias voltages, which improves its operation at low ...

A generator of very short pulses where a cascade of inverters of arbitrary length characterized in that said inverters are adapted to produce pulses on their power supply line instead of their usual output. ...

Internet of Things (IoT) and Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) infrastructures are becoming more and more available and diffused. One major outcome is the development of new services that help to make everyday life easier and better. One of those to which thi ...

This paper presents a closed-loop remote powering link for wireless cortical implants. The link operates from a single power supply at the external reader and delivers power to the implant adaptively under changing load conditions. A feedback information i ...

This paper proposes an interface circuit for wirelessly powered implants for mice temperature monitoring. The circuit contains the read-out circuit and a data converter. By using a novel approach to cancel the non-linear effects of thermistor sensors, the ...

In this work we present an instrumented smart knee prosthesis for in-vivo measurement of forces and kinematics. Studying the constraints, we designed minimal sensory systems to be placed in the polyethylene part of the prosthesis. The magnetic sensors and ...

Two groups of 10 Parkinson’s disease (PD) patients and 10 age-matched Normal subjects performing normal life activities were recorded using a portable recorder and 3D gyroscopes. PD patients had sub-thalamic stimulation implantation for 20±3 months. The PD patients performed the test twice: with and without stimulation. Bradykinesia and Tremor of hands in PD patients was quantified and strong correlation between this objective method and UPDRS clinical score was found.

This paper presents the design and implementation of a rail-to-rail 460-kS/s 10-bit successive approximation register analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for the power-efficient capacitance measurement. The specifications of ADC are optimized at system level ...

This paper presents a novel high-frequency filter concept based on a single MEMS capacitive shunt structure using meander arm inductance. Tuning ranges of the central frequency in the order of 55% are experimentally demonstrated for filters operating betwe ...

We describe an impulse-radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmitter made with off-the-shelf discrete components. It was initially designed to be used in a UWB testbed for measurement and algorithm validation purposes. There already exist several versions of a ...

Averaging network is adopted to reduce the front-end amplifier's offset in the flash analog-to-digital converter (ADC) commonly at the cost of the boundary threshold error. Such error worsens the integral-nonlinearity and introduces distortion. An averagin ...

This paper presents a high precision capacitive moisture sensor for polymers that is part of a compact, fast, and economic moisture analyzer capable of reaching similar precision than commercial moisture analyzers based on the Karl Fischer method. The desi ...

A study on ultrasound link for wireless energy transmission dedicated to deeply implanted medical devices is presented. The selection of the frequency to avoid biological side effects (e. g., cavitations), the choice of the power amplifier to drive the ext ...

A low-power transceiver for ISM applications in the 868-MHz band has been integrated in a 0.8-μm BiCMOS technology. The receiver part is based on the super-regenerative principle. The system includes two time-shared control loops, one for the selectivity and sensitivity control and one for the frequency control (PLL). The receiver with its PLL draws 3.6 mW for a sensitivity of -105 dBm and the emitter current consumption is 6mA for a 0-dBm output power. A 2.4-V operation voltage allow the usage of a two-bat

A low-power PPM demodulator has been developed for remotely powered batteryless implantable devices. The required power is harvested by the magnetic coupling with external powering coils placed under the living space of the animal. The remote powering is t ...

Multi-target and continuous monitoring by wireless implantable devices is of increasing interest for personalized therapy. In this work an implantable system is presented which is capable of measuring different drugs with Cyclic Voltammetry (CV) method. Th ...
