This paper presents the design of an impulse radio ultra-wideband (IR-UWB) transmitter for low-power, short-range, and high-data rate applications such as high density neural recording interfaces. The IR-UWB transmitter pulses are generated by modulating t ...

This paper discusses a novel tag/reader system, based on the passive, far-field RFID principle, with megabits per second read capability at operating ranges of several centimeters. The system operates in the ISM band at 2.45 GHz. A maximum data rate of 4 M ...

This study presents design and implementation of a wireless energy and transfer system. The system is targeted to work in accordance with neural recording and stimulation purposes, more specifically for in-vivo epilepsy monitoring. A brief overview of the ...

Rectifiers are important energy converters and henceforth crucial building blocks for RFID applications. In the first half of the work, we have presented a design methodology for matching the rectifier input impedance with the antenna to maximize the rectifier power conversion efficiency. The proposed design approach uses the fundamental transconductance (Gm(1)) analysis to estimate the rectifier input impedance. In the second half, a comparison between various possible single-stage rectifier topologies imp

This paper presents a fully integrated remotely powered and addressable radio frequency identification (RFID) transponder working at 2.45 GHz. The achieved operating range at 4 W effective isotropically radiated power (EIRP) base-station transmit power is ...

An active skull replacement system including an implant having an area A, an upper surface, and a bottom surface, adapted to be implanted at least in part into a skull of a subject so to substitute a portion of the skull, the bottom surface arranged to fac ...

This paper presents the design of a 13.56 MHz full-wave active rectifier that utilizes digitally-assisted and delay compensated comparators for wirelessly powered biomedical implants. The proposed design employs delay compensation and digital assistance te ...

This article presents the analysis of the power efficiency of the inductive links used for remote powering of the biomedical implants by considering the effect of the load resistance on the efficiency. The optimum load condition for the inductive links is calculated from the analysis and the coils are optimized accordingly. A remote powering link topology with a matching network between the inductive link and the rectifier has been proposed to operate the inductive link near its optimum load condition to im

Continuous and minimally invasive measurements of metabolism are the key to the understanding and proper treatment of various pathologies. In this context, this paper deals with an innovative concept of a wireless measurement system that monitors glucose c ...

Audio processing had been in demand throughout the electronic era. Recent advances in neural networks increased the demand on audio processing for speech recognition applications. In this work, a rigorous study on the dynamic range and system complexity op ...

Medical implant devices have found widespread application in recent years. The Super-Regenerative Receiver has been one preferred architecture due to its power advantage over other architectures. We present a detailed analysis of the circuits and their equ ...

An implantable local temperature monitoring system for a laboratory mouse is presented. Magnetic coupling is used to remotely power the passive implant. The temperatures of two local points are monitored by thermistors. A low-power readout circuit is imple ...

This paper presents a remotely powered implantable heart monitoring system for freely moving animals. The system measures the blood pressure in the left ventricle of the heart and transmits the data to a database unit. The implanted unit is remotely powere ...

A low-power and low-voltage super-regenerative receiver operating at 1 GHz and implemented in a 0.35-μm CMOS process is described. The receiver includes an low-noise amplifier, a super-regenerative oscillator, an envelope detector, an AGC circuitry with sample/hold function, and a baseband amplifier. The die surface is equal to 0.25 mm2. The power consumption is less than 1.2 mW at VDD = 1.5 V. A 100-KHz saw tooth quench signal is used to achieve a rejection of -36 dB at 500 KHz from the central frequency.

Effective power management is crucial in designing wirelessly powered implants that have a long operational lifetime. It ensures that the received power is optimized for efficient operation and prevents damage caused by excessive or insufficient powering. ...

This paper presents a remote powering realization for smart orthopedic implants with a full-wave rectifier and a voltage doubler. The measured power efficiency of the rectifier at 13.56 MHz is 80% for an output power of 20 mW with 2.2 V output. The rectifi ...

The goal of this paper is to prove that a safe and efficient energy transfer is possible between an external transducer located on the patient's skin and a device deeply implanted in the abdomen. An ultrasound propagation model based on the Rayleigh-Sommer ...

Wireless radio consumes the highest power in many systems and must be activated wisely to save power especially in battery-powered systems. Hence, gathering insight into the spectrum activity is needed to control the wireless radio. In this work, classic f ...
