Internet of Things (IoT) provides more and more adequate infrastructures for many applications and advanced services. This context promotes the ability to satisfy the growing demand for innovative measuring systems, increasingly popular with intelligent no ...

This paper presents a novel tunable bandpass filter design with independent control of both the centre frequency and the bandwidth by means of analogue-series and digital-shunt MEMS capacitors. The filter is designed for operation in X and Ku bands with 4 ...

This article presents the design of the inductive links of remotely powered wireless cortical implants for minimum interference from the power link to the data link. This interference is minimized by changing the orientation of the inductors. Different ori ...

The recent increase in the need for energy efficient wireless nodes have led to the study of various low power consumption receiver and transmitter architectures. The super-regenerative receiver architecture is one of the possible candidates for such a low ...

Wearable and implantable medical devices are of great importance in diagnosis and treatment as they provide continuous monitoring and data collection. Considering the comfort of the patient and ease-of-operation, these devices require wireless data transmi ...

This study presents a wireless energy and data transfer system for neural implants with an emphasis on epilepsy monitoring. A wireless uplink data transmission system is built upon a remote powering system based on magnetic coupling which has been implemen ...

Full-duplex communication is realized by using ASK modulation for downlink (the channel from controller to the implant) and by using FSK modulation for uplink (from implant to the controller). The ASK modulation is done at the remote powering frequency and ...

This paper presents a wireless power conversion system designed for biomedical implants, with integrated automatic resonance tuning. The automatic tuning mechanism improves power transfer efficiency (PTE) by finely tuning the resonant frequency of the powe ...

This chapter explores dual-band telemetry systems and presents a dual-band inductive link operating at 6.78 and 13.56 MHz within the industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM) frequency bands. The primary goal is to enable wireless power and data transmission for multisite biomedical implants. To minimize magnetic interference between coils and optimize the area, a single-coil transmitter configuration is adopted in the presented design. Additionally, this chapter examines the benefits of using various plana

In this paper, we present a calibration technique for controlling the magnetic field emitted by an antenna without measuring that magnetic field or the current through the antenna. Using a predictive algorithm and without adding hardware to perform test me ...

A fully parameterized three-dimensional model with specific dimensions has been developed in ANSYS for an insulin injection pen used by diabetic persons. The insulin injection pen has a smart pen cap which hosts four electrodes used for the smart pen cap e ...

Introduction: In this study the effect of subthalamic nucleus neep brain Stimulation (STN-DBS) on the gait parameters of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) was examined using an ambulatory gait analysis system based on miniature gyroscopes. The aim was twofold: to characterize gait with and without stimulation (ON and OFF states) and to understand how STN-DBS improves motor performance in PD patients. Methods: Ten PD patients, 20±3 months after implantation of bilateral STN-DBS were asked to walk 20m. Pa

This paper presents an energy and area efficient capacitively-coupled chopper instrumentation amplifier (CCIA) dedicated to implantable bridge sensor systems. Chopper stabilization is employed to decrease its offset and 1/f noise and the resulting ripple d ...

An all wireless closed-loop stimulation system for epilepsy control is presented that generates charged-balanced programmable stimulation current pulses upon a seizure is detected. The proposed system has highly flexible stimulation parameters thanks to th ...

A bio-electronics system that measures cytosolic [Ca2+] in vitro in the INS-1E pancreatic beta-cells using a 430 nm excitation light with the excitation wavelength of the probe being at 435 nm was successfully implemented and tested. We transfected the INS ...

This paper proposes a linear two-port model for an N-stage modified-Greinacher full-wave rectifier. It predicts the overall conversion efficiency at Iow power levels where the diodes are operating near their threshold voltage. The output electrical behavio ...

The design of distributed amplifiers in a CMOS process is investigated. In particular, the impact of parasitic elements from the transistors and from interstage inductors is studied. A methodology for determining an optimum design, including the number of ...

This paper presents a low power fully integrated class-E power amplifier and its integration with remotely powered sensor system. The class-E power amplifier is suitable solution for low-power applications due to its high power efficiency. However, the req ...

In this work, a base-station design is proposed for passive UHF RFID tags that use pulse-width modulation (PWM) in backscattering communication. The theoretical analysis of the PWM backscattering is presented along with the challenges it creates in the bas ...

This paper describes the design and implementation of a low-power superregencrative receiver front-end operating in the 2.4-GHz ISM band. Specifically, the design is conceived to support high quench frequencies and, consequently, high data rates. The front ...
