Summary: Using our ambulatory monitoring system, ASUR, 13 Parkinsonian patients were monitored for periods of up to 5 hours while they were free to perform activities at will. Every one hour patients did a UPDRS test as the clinical assessment. During the period of the monitoring, subjects had their Stimulation ON and OFF. Analyzing the data, periods of gait have been detected and gait parameters were calculated. We’ve found significant correlation between the results of this objective method and those of t

Remote powering and power management of a passive sensor system employing antenna-rectifier co-design is presented. The operating frequency of the system is chosen at 2.45 GHz in order to reduce the antenna size. A co-design approach enables the coupling o ...

Power savings requirements in wake-up circuits and RFID applications can greatly benefit from the emerging RF MEM technology. In this paper we report an RF MEM power sensor that can simultaneously offer significant power savings and co-integration with wak ...

A new method for computing the component values of LC ladder equalizers for broadband matching purposes is presented. The method is inspired by the theory of recursive identification and results in a very compact algorithm. As in the usual real frequency technique, the load and generator impedances have to be known only at a small number of frequencies. Starting from an assumed topology for the equalizer with random values for the components, the equalizer components are iteratively built with a recursive i

Current clinical neural recording methods which employ wired connections to the external world can be improved by eliminating the wires thanks to integrated circuit and microsystems technology. This study presents design and implementation of such a system ...

This paper presents a wireless power and data transmitter designed for central implanted units (CIUs) in the context of biomedical applications. This CIU is positioned within the human body or brain to supply power from stored battery energy to specific im ...

This paper presents techniques for increasing communication data rates for OOK modulated signals in the case the carrier frequency is generated by a cross-coupled pair LC oscillator. The proposed circuitry completely turns off the transmitter during the tr ...

This paper presents a novel CMOS RF-to-DC converter for ultra-low-power wireless sensor nodes powered by RF wireless power transfer. The proposed converter achieves 10% higher power conversion efficiency than a conventional rectifier, with only a 1% increa ...

This paper presents an energy-efficient, duty-cycled, and spinning excitation bridge-to-digital converter (BDC) designed for implantable pressure sensing systems. The circuit provides the measure of the pulmonary artery pressure that is particularly releva ...

This article presents an inductive power link for a cortical implant. The link includes a Class-E power amplifier, an inductive link, a matching network, and a rectifier. The coils of the inductive link are designed and optimized for a distance of 10mm (scalp thickness). The power amplifier is designed in order to allow closed loop power control by controlling the supply voltage. A new packaging topology is proposed in order to position the implant in the skull, without occupying much area, but still obtain

In this work, the design of a passive UHF RFID tag for sensor applications is described. The system level design issues are discussed taking into account the possible operation scenarios. Among the blocks in the tag, the emphasis is on the design of the re ...

A low power SAR logic-based resistive sensor readout circuit is proposed. A high sensitivity thermistor is used for local temperature measurements. The need for a low-noise front-end voltage amplifier is avoided by employing time-domain operation. In each ...

A wirelessly powered and data communication system is presented which is implemented as a full system, designed for multisite implanted biomedical applications. The system is capable of receiving wireless power and data communication for each implant separ ...

This chapter presents the remote powering and conversion mechanisms applied to wireless cortical implants, and more specifically developing the three-layer architecture explained in Chap. 1. The central implanted unit (CIU), implanted internally, serves as the primary wireless power source for the implant (ASPs), with wireless power delivery achieved through magnetic coupling and the received power must be converted into a stable DC voltage. The design of power conversion units is presented in this chapter.

This study presents a wireless power and data transmission system to overcome the problems in intracranial epilepsy monitoring associated with transcutaneous wires. Firstly, a wireless power transfer link based on inductive coupling is implemented and a po ...
