Co-sputtered TiO2-Cu polyester (TiO2-Cu-PES) under actinic light induced bacterial reduction of E. coli in the presence of O2 (air) and under anaerobic conditions. The bacterial inactivation/oxidation proceeds in the absence of O2 (air) probably due to the ...

Recently, compact uniform and adhesive films of Ag and Cu have been prepared by DC-magnetron sputtering (DC), pulsed DC magnetron sputtering (DCP) and high power impulse magnetron sputtering (HIPIMS). This study reports the HIPIMS deposition for Ag and Cu ...

This study reports HIPIMS-sputtered samples of Cu-particulate films with currents at 6 and 60 amps leading to E. coil inactivation. The Cu coverage and nanoparticle structure of the fibers is reported by TEM. Evidence is presented of redox processes in the ...

Wastewater containing mainly 5-amino-6-methyl-2-benzimidazolone (AMBI), used in the manufacture of dyes, was characterized as bio-recalcitrant by means of different biodegradability tests. In order to enhance the biodegradability of this important pollutant, solar photocatalytic degradation methods were explored. The systems light/TiO2/O-2, light/TiO2/H2O2, light/Fe3+/O-2 and light/Fe3+/H2O2 were compared under direct sunlight at the Plataforma Solar de Almeria (Spain), using a Compound Parabolic Collector

In this study, the photoreactivation and the modification of dark repair of E. coli in a simulated secondary effluent were investigated after initial irradiation under different conditions. The simulated solar exposure of the secondary wastewater was follo ...

TiO2/nylon fabrics were investigated for methanol degradation under UV light irradiation. TiO2 Degussa P-25 was supported on nylon by immersing the nylon in sol-gel TiO2 and silicone. The TiO2 layers on the nylon were explored as a function of the time of ...

The elimination of aromatic compounds present in surface water by photo-Fenton with sunlight as the source of radiation was studied. The concentrations of Fe3+ and H2O2 are key factors for this process. A solar simulator and a prototype parabolic collector ...

In this study, silver/copper (Ag/Cu)-coated catheters were investigated for their efficacy in preventing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection in vitro and in vivo. Ag and Cu were sputtered (67/33% atomic ratio) on polyurethane cathe ...

Polyethylene-TiO2 (from now on PE-TiO2) transparent, non-scattering sputtered films have been found effective in the discoloration of methylene blue (MB) under low intensity solar simulated light. By Fourier transform attenuated infrared spectroscopy (ATR- ...

he influence of the halogen upon the TiO2 photocatalytic degradation of p-halophenols in water has been investigated. Phenol was used as the reference compound. Compared with its value for phenol, the apparent first-order rate constant of removal, k, was s ...

In this study, the effect of light intermittence on solar disinfection of secondary treated wastewater was investigated. Synthetic secondary effluent was spiked with Escherichia coli and submitted to 3 different light intermittence regimes by circulating t ...

Photocatalytic degradation of phenol, nalidixic acid, mixture of pesticides, and another of emerging contaminants in water was mediated by TiO2 and iron oxide immobilized on functionalized polyvinyl fluoride films (PVFf-TiO2-Fe oxide) in a compound parabol ...

In this work, we studied the effect of inorganic ions occurring in natural waters on E. coli inactivation by solar and photo-Fenton processes, two crucial methods for drinking water treatment in sunny or developing countries. HCO3-, Cl-, SO42-, NO3-, NO2- ...

In this work, TiO2 photocatalysis was used to disinfect domestic wastewaters previously treated by different biological treatment systems: Upward-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB), facultative pond, and duckweed pond. The microorganisms monitored were E ...

Test results for a designed and installed hybrid photocatalytic–photovoltaic system (HPPS) are presented in this paper. The HPPS consists of one device with dual functions: The photocatalytic system uses UV radiation to promote degradation of organic pollu ...

In this study, wastewater from the output of three different secondary treatment facilities (Activated Sludge, Moving Bed Bioreactor and Coagulation-Flocculation) present in the municipal wastewater treatment plant of Vidy, Lausanne (Switzerland), was furt ...

A detrimental effect on the survival of bacteria Escherichia coli KI2 was observed after photocatalytic exposure. The reactions have been carried out in a batch photoreactor using mainly titanium dioxide (TiO2) P-25 Degussa as a catalyst. Illumination was produced by a Hanau Suntest lamp. Some parameters, such as light intensity, extend of continuous irradiation, catalyst concentration and temperature have a positive effect on disinfection. Intermittent illumination results in an increase in the time requir

The effect of different chemical parameters on photocatalytic inactivation of E. coli K12 is discussed. Illumination was produced by a solar lamp and suspended TiO2 P-25 Degussa was used as catalyst. Modifications of initial pH between 4.0 and 9.0 do not affect the inactivation rate in the absence or presence of the catalyst. Addition of H2O2 affects positively the E. coli inactivation rate of both photolytic (only light) and photocatalytic (light Plus TiO2) disinfection processes. Addition of some inorgani

The photo-disinfection of water from two different wells (W1, pH: 4.6–5.1 ± 0.02) and (W2 pH: 5.6–5.7 ± 0.02) was carried out during the rainy season at Ouagadougou–Burkina Faso, West Africa. The weather variation during the rainy season significantly affe ...
