The driving electronics of an haptic tactile interface (HTI) is presented. The stability of its linear power amplifier under the capacitive load of the HTI piezoelectric actuator is analysed and ensured. As the HTI actuator is a resonant one, a topology to ...

Facial nerve palsy results in the inability to control facial muscles, including the Orbicularis Oculi, which is the main muscle enabling the blinking action. Blinking is not only important for responding socially to other humans, it is also essential for ...

In many applications, industry has tried to develop sinusoidal supply for brushless DC (BLDC) motors. This paper describes a method that still keeps a simple 2 phases-on sensorless method and achieves sinusoidal supply, which is needed to avoid speed oscillations due to the very low mechanical constant of small motors. The method is based on back-EMF sensing. Principles, measures and extensions are proposed. The results of industrial applications are exposed and discussed

The need for the gripper becomes more demanding when it comes to automated manipulation or handling of fragile structures. Depending on the object and the task requirements, a single gripper with a fixed stiffness may not be enough, and a variable mechanis ...

This paper focuses on the design and application of low power and low-frequency localization system using received signal strength indication (RSSI). The receiver will wake up from sleeping mode by a modulated magnetic field emitted from a transmitter module. Then it will send messages containing the Received Signal Strength Indication (RSSI) via WiFi with Message Quest Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol to an MQTT broker. Using the magnetic coupling effect and RSSI ranging, the system is a unique candidat

This work studies the level-set based topology optimization for the optimal layout of winding in electric motor. The functional to optimize is to maximize the torque in the air-gap. The coil domain is initiated by a level set function. The time evolutionar ...

This paper presents an analytical model for the calculation of the flux density in PM synchronous motors. Parallel and radial magnetization of surface-mounted magnets and finite permeability of the iron are taken into account. © 2006 IEEE.

Dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs) have raised interest due to their remarkable capabilities in various applications, such as soft robotics, haptic feedback systems, and biomedical devices. To harness the full potential of DEAs, the choice of the electr ...

We present a new, completely original exact method to determine the permeance between two opposing iron teeth. This configuration is important because it is often encountered in electrical machines and apparatus. The method is based on conformal mapping. T ...

Increasing material costs and emerging applications have steered research trends towards compacter and therefore faster drives. The arising challenges of miniaturization have made contactless magnetic levitation increasingly attractive, which offer practic ...

The paper presents a method to determine hysteresis losses in synchronous permanent magnet (M) slotless motors. The method comprises four steps: (1) experimental determination of the B-H loop, () analytical modeling of the B-H loop by applying different models, (3) analytical modeling of the hysteresis losses, and (4) determination of the hysteresis losses in a synchronous PM motor, and results verification using an experiment and an FEM software. This paper also presents an innovative and simple way to tak

Tubular dielectric elastomer actuators (DEAs), used for ventricular assist devices (VAD), have shown strong performance in biomedical applications due to their electromechanical properties as actuators, achieving large displacement. Integrating DEAs for medical devices requires a compact and efficient power supply module that can harvest energy for extended periods. Bidirectional DC-DC converters ensure optimal performance in powering DEAs. Therefore, a Solid-State Marx generator is presented, capable of op

Dielectric Elastomer Actuators (DEAs) are a type of soft actuators, generating mechanical displacement when an electric stimulation is applied. DEAs can be described as compliant capacitors, and when a voltage is applied, a compressive Maxwell stress will ...

Many applications are limited by the performance of the motors that power them. In the small power range, slotless BLDC motors are commonly used due to their intrinsic high power density and smooth torque characteristic. However, recent work has shown that ...

Including friction modeling in simulation can be challenging and requires time domain simulation, which is time consuming. We propose to separate the friction modelling from the FEA (Finite Element Analysis). The approach is defined for UCM (Ultrasonic Cer ...

This paper presents designs of the surface-mounted permanent magnet (SPM) motor and Vernier motor for the Collaborative Robot (Cobot) applications. Design constraints and operating conditions are referred from a commercial 12-slot 10-pole SPM motor using i ...

The purpose of this paper is to present an experimental method to separate losses components due to the rotation of the rotor in very-high-speed permanent magnet machines with ball bearings. In addition, it presents and validates an analytical model for th ...

This paper provides a general sensorless method to control the position of a linear actuator. After a review of the solutions used so far, this new method is applied to identify keys passing through a linear actuator used in an industrial textile machine. ...

This paper aims to adapt the well established Brinson model for the thermoelastic behaviour of the Shape Memory Effect (SME) so as to compare it to a custom shape memory material modelled using an finite element modelling software. In this work, the Brinso ...

The aim of the European project Nephron+ is the design of a wearable artificial kidney device. This paper is focused on the design of the corresponding ultralow-hemolysis continuous-operation blood pump. Accurate specifications and operating principle of t ...
