Elastomer composites are prepared by infiltrating polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) into a porous ceramic structure of nanoparticles. This method differs from the conventional approach, where particles are dispersed into the polymer matrix, since here, the polym ...

Polymer light-emitting electrochemical cells (PLECs) and light-emitting diodes (PLEDs) receive interest for large-area lighting and signage applications. During operation of a PLEC, a p-i-n junction develops where electrons and holes are injected into the ...

The alarming rise in global temperature mandates the reduction of carbon emissions. Along with the usage of clean energy technologies, removal of the existing/produced CO 2 in the atmosphere is also equally important to mitigate climate change. Amine-based sorbents are most popular for absorbing CO 2 from the atmosphere as well as industrial flue gas. However, the regeneration of amines is an energy-intensive process that limits their applicability [1]. Electrochemically mediated CO 2 capture/release (EMCCR

Thermally stimulated current (TSC) is a widely used technique to assess trap states and extract their density, energy, and capture rate using analytical expressions. In many cases, the latter are derived from physical models pertaining to inorganic semicon ...

Composite films based on dispersions of bismuth ferrite (BiFeO3) in polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) matrixes were prepared in the presence of multiwalled-carbon-nanotubes (MWCNT), using xanthan gum (XG) as dispersant. Films were prepared by spin coating and ...

Conductive inks consisting of graphene and carbon black conductive fillers into a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix, which can be processed into thin films by screen printing are developed. The influence of filler composition and content on mechanical and ...

We have investigated the doping mechanism of pentacene with iodine and its impact on the structure and on the electronic properties of single crystals, powders, and thin films in a large range of iodine concentration up to six iodine per pentacene (PEN) molecule (I/PEN = 6). Three regimes of doping have been identified. In the low doping regime I/PEN < 0.05, the pristine pentacene structure of single crystals is maintained. Electron spin resonance (ESR) evidences a Pauli susceptibility, that is, the charact

Stretchable alternating current electroluminescent (ACEL) devices have a bright future in wearable electronics and soft robotics. Still, their market application is hindered by high operating voltages. The voltage can be reduced by increasing the relative ...

The development of near-infrared (NIR) photodetection technologies is driven by emerging applications such as medical imaging or optical sensors for electronic displays and machine vision. An all-organic upconverter (OUD) is a device that converts incident ...

MXene inks are promising alternatives for conventional conductive inks in printing electronics. However, the formulation of MXene inks is challenging due to the physicochemical properties of the few solvents in which MXenes can be dispersed. Furthermore, c ...

Pyroelectric materials enable the direct conversion of thermal fluctuations into electrical energy, offering a promising approach to waste heat recovery. While pyroelectric polymers are highly valued for their scalable synthesis, mechanical flexibility, and tunable properties, the field is currently dominated by poly(vinylidene fluoride) (PVDF)-based materials, which present environmental and processing challenges. To develop fluorine-free alternatives and elucidate the influence of molecular architecture o

We investigate heterojunction photovoltaic devices using the carbocyanine 1,1'-diethyl-3,3,3',3'-tetramethylcarbocyanine perchlorate (Cy5) as donor and buckminsterfullerene (C60) as acceptor. We find that photocurrent generation occurs at the in ...

In recent years, organic-inorganic lead halide perovskite-based solar cells (PSCs) have emerged as a potentially disruptive photovoltaic technology, offering high power conversion efficiencies (PCE) with low manufacturing costs and simple fabrication via solution processing. Despite the mixed ionic-electronic conductivity of perovskites and the high defect densities in the semiconductor expected from solution processing, PSCs can easily achieve high PCE values. The defects most likely to form mostly induce

We have used electrically detected magnetic resonance (EDMR) to study a series of multilayer organic devices based on aluminum (III) 8-hydroxyquinoline (Alq3). These devices were designed to identify the microscopic origin of different spin-depe ...

Doping of organic light-emitting devices using highly luminescent molecules is a well-established strategy to improve brightness, efficiency and lifetime or to adjust emission color and color purity. Laser dyes from the pyran-containing donor-acceptor family are particularly interesting for emission in the yellow and red spectral domain. In solution, these polar dyes show marked solvatochromic shifts in the absorption and emission. The fluorescence quantum efficiency also depends strongly on solvent polarit

Electrically detected magnetic resonance (EDMR) was used to study a series of multilayer organic devices based on aluminum (III) 8-hydroxyquinoline (Alq3). These devices were designed to identify the microscopic origin of different spin dependen ...

Imaging in the near-infrared (NIR) is getting increasingly important for applications such as machine vision or medical imaging. NIR-to-visible optical upconverters consist of a monolithic stack of a NIR photodetector and a visible light-emitting unit. Suc ...

Semiconducting polymers are being studied intensively for optoelectronic device applications, including solution-processed light-emitting diodes (PLEDs). Charge traps in polymers limit the charge transport and thus the PLED efficiency. It is firmly establi ...

The mechanism of photoinduced symmetry-breaking charge separation in solid cyanine salts at the base of organic photovoltaic and optoelectronic devices is still debated. Here, we employ femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy (TAS) to monitor the cha ...

Near-infrared (NIR) light detection at wavelengths lambda > 1100 nm is essential in modern science and technology. Emerging organic semiconductors are promising for solution-processed, flexible, and large-area NIR organic photodetectors (OPDs), but only a ...
