The first example of a heteroarylvinylene pi-conjugated quaterpyridine Ru(II) sensitizer (N1044) was synthesized and used in dye-sensitized solar cells; the dye has an effective panchromatic absorption band, covering the entire visible spectrum up to the NIR region, and superior electrochemical characteristics (HOMO/LUMO and bandgap energies) with respect to previous representative Ru(II) bi- and quaterpyridine sensitizers. A record IPCE curve ranging from 360 to 920 nm has been measured with a maximum of 6

A simple mononuclear cyclometallated iridium(III) complex exhibits white photo- and electro-luminescence in the wavelength range from 440 to 800 nm, which originates from a single emitting excited state of mixed character. ...

A new heteroleptic ruthenium complex, coded CYC-B19, incorporating an ancillary ligand endowed with hexylthio-bithiophene segments and a conjugated anchoring ligand with vinyl groups was prepared. This new sensitizer exhibits a lower energy MLCT band centr ...

O'Regan and Gratzel conceived a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC), which operates as an artificial photosynthetic system converting solar light into electricity. Nevertheless, it is only recently that the scientific community is focusing on truly aqueous DS ...

A catalytic dispersion of fine metal particles mediates the photodissociation of water into hyrogen gas. A protective agent adsorptive to said particles and selected from among homopolymers, copolymers, hydrocarbyl radicals and polysaccharides stabilizes the said dispersion.

We demonstrated that extracts from sea tangle can serve as a sensitizer, redox couple, as well as a counter electrode material, or even can be fabricated into an "all-natural solar cell". Especially, the carbon counter electrode from sea tangle has achieve ...

We report the first bis-cyclometalated cationic iridium(III) complex with N-aryl-substituted 1H-imidazo [4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline. The complex emits yellow-orange phosphorescence with a maximum at 583 nm, a quantum yield of 43%, and an excited-state life ...

Forward biasing of transparent nanocryst. TiO2 (anatase) films in lithium ion-contg. org. electrolytes leads to rapid and reversible coloration due to electron accumulation and Li+ intercalation in the anatase lattice. Absorption of >90% light throughout the visible and near IR can be switched on an off with a few seconds. The nanocryst. morphol. of the film plays role in enhancing the electrochromic process.

The effect of the presence of unreacted PbI2 on the perovskite solar cells efficiency is reported. N,N-Dimethylformamide vapor treatment is introduced to study the influence of complete conversion to a power conversion efficiency of the device. It is disco ...

Two phase-pure nanocrystalline anatase materials differing in the exposed crystal facets (001) or (101) are studied by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and by transient photovoltage and photocurrent decay in dye sensitized solar cells. A larger chemi ...

Sub-picosecond transient absorption study has been employed to study the electron transfer kinetics in the dye-sensitized TiO2 films used in commercial photovoltaic devices. The electron injection in these dye sensitized films occurs on an ultrafast time scale with two components, 150 fs and 1 & BULL;2 ps.

A series of donor-chromophore-anchor (D-C-A) sensitizers comprising the diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) chromophore were synthesized and tested in both I-3(-)/I- and Co(bpy) redox shuttle DSC devices. The dye series was strategically designed to elucid ...

The invention relates to substituted ullazine and analogs of ullazine as sensitizers for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and other photoelectrochemical and/or optoelectronic devices. The sensitizers may comprise donor substituents and/oracceptor substit ...

We have developed a reusable piezoelectric immunosensor for human granulocytes. Three different methods for immobilization of the anti-CD 18 antibody on the gold electrode of the immunosensor were tested. The methods showed some differences in terms of stability and sensitivity. Applying an anti-CD 18 antibody layer onto a 10-MHz AT-cut crystal resulted for 2 × 103 to 3 × 105 cells on the surface in a linear frequency change. The modified crystal was stable for eight weeks when stored desiccated at room tem

Electrochemical CO2 reduction driven by renewable electricity is one of the promising strategies to store sustainable energy as fuels. However, the selectivity of value-added multi-carbon products remains poor for further application of this process. Here, ...

CO₂ electroreduction powered by renewable electricity offers a sustainable route to produce fuels and chemicals. The technology is entering the early stages of industrial adoption, with current low-temperature CO₂eR systems achieving reaction rates above 1 A cm⁻² and Faradaic efficiencies (FE) exceeding 90% for syngas production. The carbon monoxide: hydrogen (CO:H₂) ratio can be tuned between 1 and 5, enabling versatile downstream applications. In this review, we move beyond lab-scale performance metrics t

Acceptor motifs based on nitrogen containing heterocycles have been synthesized for use in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs). Through the selective addition of nitrogen atoms and increased conjugation of the nitrogen containing heterocycles the excited-sta ...

Artificial photosynthesis, mimicking nature in its efforts to store solar energy, has received considerable attention from the research community. Most of these attempts target the production of H-2 as a fuel and our group recently demonstrated solar-to-hy ...
