Tandem solar cells combining silicon and perovskite absorbers have the potential to outperform state-of-the-art high efficiency silicon single junction devices. However, the practical fabrication of monolithic silicon/perovskite tandem solar cells is chall ...

The undoped and carbon-free olivine, LiFePO4 was bonded with 5% PVDF, and deposited on F-doped SnO2 support (FTO). The electrodes were modified by a monolayer of three different complexes: NaRu(4,4′-dicarboxylic acid-2,2′-bipyridine)(4,4′-dinonyl-2,2′-bipy ...

Efficient and stable mesoscopic dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) introducing a low-viscosity binary ionic liquid (1-propyl-3-methyl-imidazolium iodide (PMII) and 1-ethyl-3-methyl-imidazolium tetracyanoborate (EMIB(CN)4)) electrolyte in combination with a new high-molar-extinction-coefficient ruthenium complex, Ru(2,2′-bipyridine-4,4′-dicarboxylic acid)(4,4′-bis(2-(4-tert-butyloxy -phenyl)ethenyl) −2,2′-bipyridine) (NCS)2, are demonstrated. The dependence of photovoltaic performance, charge transport and el

Cost management and toxic waste generation are two key issues that must be addressed before the commercialization of perovskite optoelectronic devices. We report a ground-breaking strategy for eco-friendly and cost-effective fabrication of highly efficient ...

Novel transition metal phthalocyanine-type compounds having an axial ligand which is capable of binding onto a semiconductor such as TiO2, and having at least one peripheral substituent, are active photosensitizers for dye solar cells. Preferred compounds offer absorbance of solar radiation in the near infra-red and may be used in electricity-generating windows.

A new heteroleptic polypyridyl ruthenium complex (see Figure) with a high molar extinction coefficient has been synthesized. The complex is demonstrated to be a highly efficient, stable sensitizer for nanocrystalline dye-sensitized solar cells. For a newly ...

The simplification of perovskite solar cells (PSCs), by replacing the mesoporous electron selective layer (ESL) with a planar one, is advantageous for large-scale manufacturing. PSCs with a planar TiO2 ESL have been demonstrated, but these exhibit unstabil ...

Lead halide perovskite light-emitting diodes (PeLEDs) have demonstrated remarkable optoelectronic performance1-3. However, there are potential toxicity issues with lead4,5 and removing lead from the best-performing PeLEDs-without compromising their high ex ...

A photoelectrochemical system for conducting endoergic chemical processes driven by light energy. This system consists essentially of an illuminated halfcell and a darkened halfcell joined via electrodes and an external circuit to allow for the transport of electrons. Also, the said halfcells are joined by an ion conducting junction so as to allow for the transport of ions. The illuminated halfcell contains a photosensitizer, an electron relay substance and a catalyst, and the darkened halfcell may contain

Aqueous dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) are emerging as the first truly safe, cheap and eco-friendly photovoltaic technology, at the same time overcoming the well-known instability upon moisture/water contamination typical of many solar cells. While man ...

Chemical doping of inorganic–organic hybrid perovskites is an effective way of improving the performance and operational stability of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). Here we use 5-ammonium valeric acid iodide (AVAI) to chemically stabilize the structure of ...

In the ongoing intense quest to increase the performance of perovskite solar cells, optimizing the morphology of perovskite material has become imperative to achieve high power conversion efficiencies. Despite the fact that nucleation plays a key role in c ...

The electrolyte is one of the key components for DSC and its properties have great influence on the photo-conversion efficiency and stability of the devices. Five new low volatile electrolytes containing 3-methoxypropionitrile (MPN) as solvent were prepare ...

We investigate two different types of TiO2 blocking layer (BL) deposition techniques commonly used in solid-state methylammonium lead triiodide perovskite (MaPbI(3))-based solar cells. Although these BLs lead to similar photovoltaic device performance, the ...

Dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) have achieved impressive conversion efficiencies for solar energy of over 11% with an electrolyte that contains triiodide/iodide as a redox couple. Although triiodide/iodide redox couples work efficiently in DSCs, they suf ...

Revved-up rust! Light-induced water splitting over iron oxide (hematite) has been achieved by using a particle-assisted deposition technique and IrO2-based surface catalysis. Photocurrents in excess of 3 mA cm-2 were obtained at +1.23 V versus the reversib ...

Multiphoton absorption processes enable many technologically important applications, such as in vivo imaging, photodynamic therapy and optical limiting, and so on. Specifically, higher-order nonlinear absorption such as five-photon absorption offers signif ...

Here, we report the use of a squaraine-based dye, JD10, as a near-infrared sensitizer for solid-state dye-sensitized solar cells (ssDSCs). Using spiro-MeOTAD as a hole-transport material, JD10 gave the highest reported power conversion efficiencies (PCE), ...

We design a series of metal-free donor-pi-bridge molecules (denoted VB0-VB4) based on a new donor group-ullazine donor-as sensitizers for dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) applications. Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations rev ...
