Concerns over climate change resulting from accumulation of anthropogenic carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and the uncertainty in the amount of recoverable fossil fuel reserves are driving forces for the development of renewable, carbon-neutral energy tech ...

We report two new molecularly engineered push-pull dyes, i.e., YA421 and YA422, based on substituted quinoxaline as a pi-conjugating linker and bulky-indoline moiety as donor and compared with reported IQ4 dye. Benefitting from increased steric hindrance w ...

The kinetic competition between electron-hole recombination and water oxidation is a key consideration for the development of efficient photoanodes for solar driven water splitting. In this study, we employed three complementary techniques, transient absor ...

Iodine added to iodide-based ionic liquids leads to dramatic changes of their physical properties which may have implications for technological applications. Here we study the phase diagram of 1-methyl 3-propylimidazolium iodide, the temperature versus iod ...

Interfacial modification is crucial to fully develop the potential of semiconductor devices, including the revolutionary halide perovskite-based optoelectronics, such as photovoltaics, light-emitting diodes, and photodetectors. The all-inorganic halide per ...

The industrialization of perovskite solar cells requires adequate materials and processes to make them economically viable and environmentally sustainable. Despite promising results in terms of power conversion efficiency and operational stability, several ...

A promising route to increase the performance of hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) photoelectrodes for solar hydrogen production through water-splitting is to use an extremely thin layer of this visible light absorber on a nanostructured scaffold. However, the typica ...

Photoelectrochemical (PEC) CO2 reduction has received considerable attention given the inherent sustainability and simplicity of directly converting solar energy into carbonbased chemical fuels. However, complex photocathode architectures with protecting l ...

The efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) is currently limited by non-radiative recombination losses. One potential loss channel consists of electrons recombining at the interface with the hole transport layer (HTL). We synthesized adamantylammonium ...

The Bases of Chemical Thermodynamics: Volume 2 In this volume (volume 2), the tools necessary to study and understand systems in which chemical reactions can take place are developed. The variables of reaction are the keys to this understanding. Criteria for chemical equilibrium are established. It is shown how chemical reactions can provide work as, for example, in batteries. For complex systems, the number of independent reactions and their nature have to be determined systematically. The effect of extern

The Bases of Chemical Thermodynamics: Volume 1 In this volume (volume 1), the fundamental aspects of thermodynamics are presented. The first and second laws of thermodynamics are illustrated. The need to define thermodynamic temperature and the nature of entropy are explained. The book explores the meaning of auxiliary thermodynamic functions, the origin, usefulness and use of partial molar quantities. Gaseous systems and phase equilibria, in systems where chemical reactions do not take place, are described

A series of homologous bis-cyclometalated iridium(III) complexes Ir(2,4-di-X-phenyl-pyridine)2(picolinate) (X = H, F, Cl, Br) HIrPic, FIrPic, ClIrPic, and BrIrPic has been synthesized and characterized by NMR, X-ray crystallography, UV–vis absorption and e ...

Effective masses are calculated for a large variety of perovskites of the form ABX(3) differing in chemical composition (A= Na, Li, Cs; B = Pb, Sn; X= Cl, Br, I) and crystal structure. In addition, the effects of some defects and dopants are assessed. We s ...

Solar hydrogen production via watersplitting with hematite (Fe2O3) has been limited by poor light absorption and a small hole diffusion length. These drawbacks can be overcome by using a high-surface-area host to support a thin layer of hematite-allowing p ...

This study points out the importance of the templating effect in hybrid organic-inorganic perovskite semiconductors grown on graphene. By combining two achiral materials, we report the formation of a chiral composite heterostructure with electronic band sp ...

The implementation of an electrochemical flow cell has enabled improved efficiency for CO2 reduction. However, in situ spectroscopic insights into the interface are still lacking. Here, we investigate a series of copper layers with different thicknesses on ...

A novel polyol synthesis was adopted to synthesize nano-structured LiMnPO4. This route yields well-crystallized nanoparticles with platelet morphology that are only similar to 30 nm thick oriented in the b direction. The obtained material presented a good ...

Learning from the concepts used by green plants photosynthesis, we have developed nanostructured systems affording efficient solar light harvesting and conversion to electricity and fuels. Solar cells using dyes or semiconducting nanoparticles as light har ...

A strategic roadmap for noncarbonized fuels is a global priority, and the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions is a key focus of the Paris Agreement to mitigate the effects of rising temperatures. In this context, hydrogen is a promising noncarbonized fue ...

Three Cu(II/I)-phenanthroline and Cu(II/I)-bipyridine redox mediators are studied on various electrodes and in variety of electrolyte solutions using cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy on symmetrical dummy cells. Graphene-based catalysts provide ...
