Hematite (alpha-Fe2O3) is widely recognized as a promising candidate for the production of solar fuels via water splitting, but its intrinsic optoelectronic properties have limited its performance to date. In particular, the large electrochemical overpoten ...

An optimized unsymmetrical squaraine dye 5-carboxy-2[[3-[(2,3-dihydro-1, 1-dimethyl-3-ethyl-1H-benzo[e]indol-2-ylidene)methyl]-2-hydroxy-4-oxo-2-cyclobuten-1-ylidene]methyl]-3,3-dimethyl-1-octyl-3H-indolium (SQ02) with carboxylic acid as anchoring group is ...

Black-phase formamidinium lead iodide (α-FAPbI3) perovskites are the desired phase for photovoltaic applications, but water can trigger formation of photoinactive impurity phases such as δ-FAPbI3. We show that the classic solvent system for perovskite fabr ...

A myriad of studies and strategies have already been devoted to improving the stability of perovskite films; however, the role of the different perovskite crystal facets in stability is still unknown. Here, we reveal the underlying mechanisms of facet-depe ...

The organic small molecule 4,4',4",4"'-(5,5-dimethoxycyclopenta-1,3-diene-1,2,3,4-tetrayl)tetrakis(N,N-bis(4-methoxyhenyl)aniline (CPDA 1), shows electrochemical properties very close to spiro-OMeTAD indicating a high compatibility with PSC systems for its ...

The operating mechanism, particularly the carrier injection mechanism, of a hybrid organic-inorganic light-emitting diode (HOILED) is reported. Asymmetric hole injection has been observed in a symmetric hole-only device, which has two identical interfaces ...

The temperature dependence of the principal photovoltaic parameters of perovskite photovoltaics is studied. The recombination activation energy is in good agreement with the perovskite's bandgap energy, thereby placing an upper bound on the open-circuit vo ...

Engineering at interface between perovskite and charge transport layers is crucial for improving operational stability. In inverted perovskite solar cells (PSCs) with a core configuration of HTL/perovskite/ETL/HBL (HTL = hole transporting layer; ETL = electron transporting layer; HBL = hole blocking layer), the interfaces at ETL based on phenyl‐C 61 ‐butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) are more defective due to its molecular geometry, leading to imperfect adhesion. We introduce the dual interlayer passivation

To develop photosensitizers with high open-circuit photovoltage (Voc) is a crucial strategy to enhance the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of co-sensitized solar cells. Here, we show a judiciously tailored organic photosensitizer, coded MS5, featuring th ...

Photoanodes consisting of nanostructured hematite prepared by atmospheric pressure chemical vapor deposition (APCVD) have previously set a benchmark for solar water splitting. Here, we fully investigate this promising system by varying critical synthetic p ...

Mixed ion perovskite solar cells (PSC) are manufactured with a metal-free hole contact based on press-transferred single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) film infiltrated with 2,2,7,-7-tetrakis(N, N-di-p-methoxyphenylamine)-9,90-spirobifluorene (Spiro-OMeTAD ...

Driving continuous, low-power artificial intelligence (AI) in the Internet of Things (IoT) requires reliable energy harvesting and storage under indoor or low-light conditions, where batteries face constraints such as finite lifetimes and increased environ ...

The high-molar-extinction-coefficient heteroleptic ruthenium aye, cis-Ru (4,4'-bis(5-octylthieno[3,2-b] thiophen-2-yl)-2,2'-bipyridine) (4,4'-dicarboxyl-2,2'-bipyridine) (NCS)(2), exhibits an AM 1.5 solar (100 mW cm(-2))-to-electric power-conversion effici ...

Solar cells incorporating lead halide-based perovskite absorbers can exhibit impressive power conversion efficiencies (PCEs), recently surpassing 15%. Despite rapid developments, achieving precise control over the morphologies of the perovskite films (mini ...

We report nine new homoleptic octahedral cobalt(II) complexes Co((NN)-N-boolean AND)(3) and Co((NNN)-N-boolean AND-N-boolean AND)(2) with bidentate or tridentate azole-pyridine ligands (where azole is 1,2,4-triazole or a substituted pyrazole). ...

Simultaneous adsorption of dye molecules and coadsorbates is important for the fabrication of high-efficiency dyesensitized solar cells, but its mechanism is not well understood. Herein, we use a quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation technique (QCM- ...

We synthesized a series of Ru(II) metal complexes TFRS-1, -2, -4, -21, -22 and -24 with a single 4,40- dicarboxylic acid-2,20-bipyridine together with two functionalized pyridyl azolate ancillary ligands consisting of pyrazolate or triazolate groups. Both ...

The tin oxide buffer layer between the transparent conducting oxide current collector and the hematite photoelectrode causes considerable water oxidation enhancement of that electrode. The water oxidation onset potential is lowered by 180 mV. The lifetime ...

The inverted perovskite solar cell fabricated using a two-step method exhibited the highest FF of 0.85 and good efficiency of 18% based on CH3NH3PbI3. A small amount of H2O was added into PbI2/DMF to make a homogenous precursor solution. A high quality PbI ...

Recently, hybrid organic-inorganic metal halide perovskites have gained prominence as potent light harvesters in thin film solid-state photovoltaics. In particular the solar-to-electric power conversion efficiency (PCE) of devices using CH3NH3PbI3 as sensitizer has increased from 3 to 20.1% within only a few years. This key material can be prepared by solution processing from PbI2 and CH3NH3I in one step or by sequential deposition. In the latter case an electron capturing support such as TiO2 is first cove
