Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells (DSSC) represents a reliable technology, ready for the market and able to compete with silicon solar cells for specific fields of application. Porphyrin dyes allow reaching high power conversion efficiency in conjunction with cob ...

The utilisation of Cu2O photocathodes for photoelectrochemical water splitting requires their stabilisation due to photocorrosion in aqueous electrolytes. Ultrathin films of wide band gap semiconducting oxides deposited by atomic layer deposition (ALD) on top of cuprous oxide can perform the dual function of both facilitating charge extraction (through the creation of a p-n junction) and protecting the absorber material from the aqueous electrolyte, thereby suppressing corrosion in favor of hydrogen generat

We report a series of cobalt complexes with various polypyridyl ligands, where the oxidation potential is tuned from 0.17 to 0.34 V vs. ferrocene. The highest occupied molecular orbitals (HOMO) of the cobalt complexes were stabilized by adding electron acc ...

Interfacial space charges significantly influence transport and recombination of charge carriers in optoelectronic devices. Due to the mixed ionic-electronic conducting properties of halide perovskites, not only electronic effects, but also ionic interacti ...

High solubility is a requirement for energy relay dyes (ERDs) to absorb a large portion of incident light and significantly improve the efficiency of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). Two benzonitrile-soluble ERDs, BL302 and BL315, were synthesized, char ...

Two ruthenium sensitizers TT-230 and TT-232 based on cyclopenta[2,1-b:3,4-b']dithiophene (CDT) were tested in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) using,a tri-iodide/iodide redox couple, and their performances compared to the benchmark Z907. Both dyes of gen ...

We prepared a quasi-solid electrolyte for dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) that consist of ionic liquid and modified silica particles. Commercial bare silica F5 particles and modified silica F5 by NH2 and NH3+ groups were prepared, and fully characterize ...

Low-temperature solution-processed materials that show optical gain and can be embedded into a wide range of cavity resonators are attractive for the realization of on-chip coherent light sources. Organic semiconductors and colloidal quantum dots are consi ...

As a result of their attractive optoelectronic properties, metal halide APbI(3)perovskites employing formamidinium (FA(+)) as the A cation are the focus of research. The superior chemical and thermal stability of FA(+)cations makes alpha-FAPbI(3)more suita ...

Incident solar radiation is the most fundamental of the sustainable energy sources, being at the origin of all others - wind and wave, biomass and even fossil fuels which represent stored solar energy over a geological time scale. Only nuclear and geothermal sources are non-solar. The direct conversion of incident solar radiation into the most convenient energy vector, electricity, motivates the development of lower cost, higher efficiency and larger area photovoltaic devices and systems. Their history, tec

Hybrid halide perovskite materials have become one of the leading candidates for various optoelectronic applications. They are based on organic-inorganic structures defined by the AMX(3) composition, were A is the central cation that can be either organic ...

Titanium dioxide (anatase, rutile) and quasi-amorphous tin dioxide are prepared on F-doped SnO2 in the form of dense thin films, which can serve as electron-selective layers in perovskite solar cells and dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). The present stud ...

Counter electrodes (CEs) of dye-sensitized solar cells (DSCs) can be prepared with different materials and methods. This review covers recent research on CEs using platinum, graphite, activated carbon, carbon black, single-wall carbon nanotubes, poly( 3,4- ...

Photoelectrochemical water-splitting devices, which use solar energy to convert water into hydrogen and oxygen, have been investigated for decades. Multijunction designs are most efficient, as they can absorb enough solar energy and provide sufficient free ...

Finely tuned: A stable dye-sensitized solar cell that contains a molecularly engineered org. dye was prepd. The efficiency of the cell remains at 90% after 1000 h of light soaking at 60°. The remarkable stability of the cell is also reflected in the open-c ...

The commercialization of perovskite solar cells is mainly limited by their operational stability. Interlayer modification by thin interface materials between the perovskite and the charge transport layers is one of the most effective methods to promote the ...

In this study, we discuss the underlying mechanism of the current-voltage hysteresis in a hybrid lead-halide perovskite solar cell. We have developed a method based on Kelvin probe force microscopy that enables mapping charge redistribution in an operating ...

Perovskites solar cells (PSCs) have emerged, since 2009, as the most promising technology to replace/complement crystalline silicon PV.[1] Outstanding results of PCE up to 26.7 % have been obtained using perovskites (eg. MAPbI3) in just a few years of research. The continuous improvement of the efficiency in PSCs has been achieved using commercially available spiro-OMeTAD as hole-transporting material (HTM). However, spiro-OMeTAD is an expensive material due to its difficult purification and multi-step synt

Operational stability of efficient opto-electronic conversion is crucial for the success in large-scale application of perovskites devices. Owing to the intrinsically weak structure of perovskites, iodide represents the most volatile constituents, and its ...

A tandem cell or photoelectrochemical system for the cleavage of water to hydrogen and oxygen by visible light has two superimposed photocells, both cells being connected electrically. The photoactive material in the top cell is a semiconducting oxide placed in contact with an aqueous solution. This semiconducting oxide absorbs the blue and green part of the solar emission spectrum of a light source or light sources and generates with the energy collected oxygen and protons from water. The not absorbed yell
