Digital solutions play a key role for enabling blended learning in higher engineering education, where the acquisition and the appropriation of core competences and transversal skills require interactive resources offering a high-level and quasi-profession ...

Digital capacity building is a key policy for states to meet the Sustainable Development Goals. This paper(1) presents one of the actions carried out by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) in collaboration with the Swiss Federal ...

Over the past three years, the Go-Lab Goes Africa (GO-GA) initiative has focused on promoting and implementing digital education in Africa. GO-GA is a Horizon 2020 innovation action supported by the European Commission. One of the outcomes of this initiative is Graasp Desktop, an open-source, customizable, cross-platform desktop application aimed at delivering technology-enhanced learning to schools where internet connectivity is limited or inexistent. A mixed-method requirements elicitation process was con

We propose an approach for on-line detection of small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and estimation of their relative positions and velocities in the 3D environment from a single moving camera in the context of sense and avoid systems. This problem is cha ...

Robotics have recently contributed to cosmological spectroscopy to automatically obtain the map of the observable universe using robotic fiber positioners. For this purpose, an assignment algorithm is required to assign each robotic fiber positioner to a t ...

This paper presents a systematic literature review of the state-of-the-art of research on learning dashboards in the fields of Learning Analytics and Educational Data Mining. Research on learning dashboards aims to identify what data is meaningful to diffe ...

Remote laboratories are software and hardware tools that allow students to remotely access real equipment located in universities. The integration of remote laboratories in learning tools (learning management systems, content man- agement systems, or perso ...

Hands-on laboratory sessions are one of the pillars of science and engineering education. It is reputed that institu- tions find it difficult to provide enough laboratory setups that cover all taught scientific topics due to logistical and budgetary limita ...

In this paper we describe ongoing work in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at the University of Florida as we offer an Online MS degree in Electrical Engineering and as we proceed with the development of major components of a BS degree in Electrical Engineering. In particular we describe the implementation of the "lectures on demand" method using multimedia streaming technologies within the now widely accepted Asynchronous Learning Network (ALN) model. Each class in the program is delivere

Path-following control is a critical technology for autonomous vehicles. However, time-varying parameters, parametric uncertainties, external disturbances, and complicated environments significantly challenge autonomous driving. We propose an iterative rob ...

Large Language Models (LLMs) have demonstrated potential for (semi-)automating the qualitative analysis of unstructured data, particularly in deductive qualitative coding using codebooks. While prior research has shown the feasibility of this technology, model performance seems to vary depending on the nature of the constructs being coded. However, existing approaches typically apply a single LLM prompting strategy across entire datasets, often of discourse transcripts or questionnaire data, using a single

The emergence of social media has created new ways to publish scientific work, foster collaboration, and build professional connections in the research community. The rich data collected in social media platforms has provided new opportunities for assessin ...

Blended inquiry learning, where students for example use online labs to perform experiments, is considered a promising approach to increase the skills and interest of students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics domains. For teachers to pr ...

The humanitarian sector is entering in the network age. The explosion in access to new information and communication technology (ICT) like mobile phones, the internet, and social media, is changing the way people communicate in emergency situations. Howeve ...

Finding relevant content is one of the core activities of users interacting with a content repository, be it knowledge workers using an organizational knowledge management system at a workplace or self-regulated learners collaborating in a learning environ ...

Astrobots are robotic artifacts whose swarms are used in astrophysical studies to generate the map of the observable universe. These swarms have to be coordinated with respect to various desired observations. Such coordination\footnote{\z{A coordination sa ...

Orchestrating technology-enhanced learning is a difficult task, especially in demanding pedagogical approaches like inquiry-based learning (IBL). To foster effective teacher adoption, both the complexity of designing IBL activities and the uncertainty abou ...

Portability, flexibility and extensibility are essential features of social media platforms. When such Web platforms are able to take user's context into account, they provide better user experience and enhance the effectiveness of users' actions. In this ...

A new approach to developing Web-enabled environments for remote diagnostics, maintenance, and experimentation in engineering is based on a middleware layer that uses a Java-Internet-Labview server to provide communication between Java programs and Labview ...

The value proposition canvas introduced in 2015 by Pigneur et al. is broadly used by entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs to create new services and products. We decided to apply it for collaborative and blended design thinking activities in a specialization in ...
