The catalytic chemical vapor deposition (CCVD) is currently the most flexible and economically attractive method for the growth of carbon nanotubes. Although its principle is simple, the precisely controlled growth of carbon nanotubes remains very complex because many different parameters influence the growth process. In this article, we review our recent results obtained on the synthesis of carbon nanotubes via CCVD. We discuss the role of the catalyst and the catalyst support. Our recent results obtained

MWNT/titania nanocomposites were prepared by an impregnation method and subsequent heat treatment at 400 degrees C. Precursor compounds such as titanium (IV) propoxide and titanium (IV) ethoxide were used to cover the surface of CNTs under solution conditi ...

We studied the newly synthesized quasi-one-dimensional compound Nb4Te17I4. Resistivity measurements confirmed its pseudo-one-dimensional character and photoemission spectroscopy clarified the nature of its valence band states. This polytelluride is a narrow-gap semiconductor at room temperature, with a forbidden gap width of 0.34 eV.

The viscoelastic behavior of dilute suspensions of reduced graphene oxide (RGO) nanoparticles in a liquid SU8 epoxy dissolved in gamma butyrolactone was investigated at RGO concentrations in the range from 0.16 to 1.07 vol. %. Our results revealed that the ...

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were successfully covered with metal oxides - such as TiO2, ZnO, Al2O3, SnO2, and In2O3 nanoparticles - with different preparation methods under solvent conditions. The applied synthesis techniques were impregnation, a ...

High-energy-resolution photoemission spectra, taken on three quasi-one-dimensional crystals, TaTe4, NbTe4, and (NbSe4)3I confirm the general phenomenon of the suppression of the photoemission intensity near the Fermi level in one dimension. We analyze the possible causes of this phenomenon in light of previous results on (TaSe4)2I.

CH3NH3PbI3 is known to be very efficient in photon to electron conversion, which makes it extremely popular in opto-electronic applications ranging from solar cells to photodetectors. The material is very brittle in bulk, single crystalline, and thin film ...

We present our optical investigations on the frustrated spin cluster compound FeTe2O5Cl, which develops a long-range antiferromagnetic order below 10 K. We measure the optical reflectivity from the far-infrared to the ultraviolet with polarized light. We f ...

We report on the mechanical properties of CH3NH3PbI3 photovoltaic perovskite measured by nanoindentation. The Young's modulus (E) of the pristine sample is 20.0 +/- 1.5GPa, while the hardness (H) is 1.0 +/- 0.1GPa. Upon extended exposure to water vapor, bo ...

We report on the temperature stability of N@C-60 peapods using electron spin resonance. The atomic nitrogen escapes at higher temperatures in the peapod than in the crystalline form. We also report on the synthesis of novel magnetic fullerene peapod, a ful ...

We study the detailed temperature and composition dependence of the resistivity, rho(T), and thermopower, S(T), for a series of layered bismuth chalcogenides Bi2Te3-xSex, and report the stoichiometry dependence of the optical band gap. In the resistivity o ...

We demonstrate that the thermopower (S) can be used to probe the spin fluctuations (SFs) in proximity to the quantum critical point (QCP) in Fe-based superconductors. The sensitivity of S to the entropy of charge carriers allows us to observe an increase o ...

We report the results of a low-temperature (300 K-15 K) high-pressure (up to 22 GPa) Raman study of the Verwey transition in magnetite (Fe3O4). We use additional Raman modes observed below the Verwey transition to determine how the transition temperature c ...

Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were grown by chemical vapor deposition by applying C2H2 fluxed over Fe1-xCox catalyst supported by alkaline earth carbonate. Detailed investigations of the chemical process occurring prior and during the growth allowe ...
