Gait bouts (GB), as a prominent indication of physical activity, contain valuable fundamental information closely associated with human & x2019;s health status. Therefore, objective assessment of the GB (e.g. detection, spatio-temporal analysis) during dai ...

A new method of estimating lower limbs orientations using a combination of accelerometers and gyroscopes is presented. The model is based on estimating the accelerations of ankle and knee joints by placing virtual sensors at the centers of rotation. The pr ...

Power-Force-Velocity profile obtained during a sprint test is crucial for designing personalized training and evaluating injury risks. Estimation of instantaneous velocity is requisite for developing these profiles and the predominant method for this estim ...

Fall prevention in elderly subjects is often based on training and rehabilitation programs that include mostly traditional balance and strength exercises. By applying such conventional interventions to improve gait performance and decrease fall risk, some ...

Total shoulder arthroplasty (TSA) is an effective treatment for glenohumeral (GH) osteoarthritis. However, it still suffers from a substantial rate of mechanical failure, which may be related to cyclic off-center loading of the humeral head on the glenoid. ...

There is a growing interest in the role played by attention and cognitive processing in the control of posture and gait, investigated by means of dual task methodology. The rationale for dual task testing is to assess whether the simultaneous performance of two (or more) attention- demanding tasks exceed the central information-processing capacity. Recently, we proposed a new ambulatory system for gait analysis (Physilog®) and validated its performances in studying normal and abnormal walking [1]. This syst

Monitoring the performance is a crucial task for elite sports during both training and competition. Velocity is the key parameter of performance in swimming, but swimming performance evaluation remains immature due to the complexities of measurements in wa ...

The purpose of this study was the development of a non-linear double inverted constrained pendulum model for the analysis of the movement of sit-to-stand (STS) transition. Ten able-bodied subjects perform five trials in their natural speed. Kinematics, kin ...

The present study proposes a method based on ski fixed inertial sensors to automatically compute spatio-temporal parameters (phase durations, cycle speed and cycle length) for the diagonal stride in classical cross-country skiing. The proposed system was v ...

In this work, we present the general concept of an instrumented smart knee prosthesis for in-vivo measurement of forces and kinematics. This system can be used for early monitoring of the patient after implantation and prevent possible damage to the prosth ...

. All rights reserved. Background: Wrist-worn inertial sensors are used in digital health for evaluating mobility in real-world environments. Preceding the estimation of spatiotemporal gait parameters within long-term recordings, gait detection is an import ...

Physical activity is an important determinant of health and well-being in older persons and contributes to their social participation and quality of life. Hence, assessment tools are needed to study this physical activity in free-living conditions. Wearabl ...

Swimming coaches provide regular timed and technical feedback to swimmers and guide them efficiently in training sessions. Due to the complexity of swimmers' performance, which is not visible in qualitative observation, quantitative and objective performan ...

Humanitarian actors involved in physical rehabilitation, such as the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), usually provide their beneficiaries with lower-limb prostheses comprising Solid Ankle Cushion Heel (SACH) feet as these are considered app ...

Spatial and temporal parameters of gait have clinical relevance in the assessment of motor pathologies, particularly in orthopaedics. A new gait analysis system is proposed which consists of (a) an ambulatory device (Physilog(R)) including a set of miniature gyroscopes and a portable datalogger, and (b) an algorithm for gait analysis. The aim of this study was the validation of this system, for accuracy and clinical applicability. Eleven patients with coxarthrosis, eight patients with total hip arthroplasty

The aim of the study was to quantify the vibrations occurring at the lower limbs and the trunk during alpine ski racing. Four European Cup level athletes skied each three runs on a typical giant slalom course. For each turn, power spectral density (PSD) of ...

Introduction: Accurately assessing people's gait, especially in real-world conditions and in case of impaired mobility, is still a challenge due to intrinsic and extrinsic factors resulting in gait complexity. To improve the estimation of gait-related digi ...

Inertial measurement units (IMUs) offer great opportunities to analyze segmental and joints kinematics. When combined with another motion capture system (MCS), for example, to validate new IMU-based applications or to develop mixed systems, it is necessary ...

In this work, we present a method for automated calibration of an implanted anisotropic magnetoresistive (AMR) sensor for measuring the internal-external rotation (IE) in a prosthetic knee without using any reference measurement. The measurement system con ...

Timed Up and Go (TUG) test is a widely used clinical paradigm to evaluate balance and mobility. Although TUG includes several complex subcomponents, namely: sit-to-stand, gait, 180 degrees turn, and turn-to-sit; the only outcome is the total time to perfor ...
