Objective: To investigate the correlation between objective and subjective evaluation of patients with total hip replacement. Design: Prospective preliminary trial comparing the Western Ontario and McMaster University questionnaire ( WOMAC) and gait analys ...

The aim of this study was to estimate the temporal gait parameters using a wrist-worn Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) during an outdoor run. While it is easier to compute running gait parameters using foot IMUs, a wrist IMU is more convenient and less obtr ...

We propose a new method, based on inertial sensors, to automatically measure at high frequency the durations of the main phases of ski jumping (i.e. take-off release, take-off, and early flight). The kinematics of the ski jumping movement were recorded by ...

The invention relates to a device and a method for measuring gait parameters. It is based on autonomous sensing units for estimation of spatio-temporal parameters during walking and uses a wavelet transform to compute the values of gait parameters from the angular velocity from the lower limbs.

Gait speed often referred as the sixth vital sign is the most powerful biomarker of mobility. While a clinical setting allows the estimation of gait speed under controlled conditions that present functional capacity, gait speed in real-life conditions prov ...

In ski jumping, take-off (TO) is considered as the most important phase. While spatio-temporal features have been identified during this phase, inter-segment coordination has never been investigated. This study proposed a new method using body worn inertia ...

Spatiotemporal gait analysis with body worn inertial sensors improves diagnosis in clinical practice. Most of the gait performance measures are affected by walking speed. However, it has not been investigated that how much information foot clearance parameters share with the key parameters of gait performance domains. Using shoe-worn inertial sensors and previously validated algorithm we measured spatiotemporal as well as clearance gait parameters in a cohort of able-bodied adults over the age of 65 (N=879)

A method for contactlessly determining an exact passage of an athlete at points placed along a track in sports, wherein the method comprises gearing the athlete with a wearable magnetometer sensor unit, whereby the magnetometer sensor unit is equipped with ...

Total knee arthroplasty is a widely performed surgical technique. Soft tissue force balancing during the operation relies strongly on the experience of the surgeon in equilibrating tension in the collateral ligaments. Little information on the forces in th ...

In this work we present an instrumented smart knee prosthesis for in-vivo measurement of forces and kinematics. Studying the constraints, we designed minimal sensory systems to be placed in the polyethylene part of the prosthesis. The magnetic sensors and ...

The aim of this paper is to demonstrate that wavelet denoising processing is extremely attractive for efficient source separation of strong noisy mixtures. Systematic numerical simulations using source separation algorithms after wavelet de-noising are used to provide quantitative evaluations of the efficiency of the method. The cases of correlated Gaussian and non-Gaussian noise are investigated, which open the way to various practical applications.

Recent advancements in wearable inertial sensor technology have enabled extensive research into activity classification. However, the distinction between the sitting and standing activities using trunk-worn wearable monitoring systems remains challenging, ...

Spinal cord stimulation (i.e. the electrical stimulation of the dorsal columns of the spinal cord) isincreasingly used for the treatment of intractable pain syndromes due to vascular or neurogenicdisorders. Despite well-established safety and efficacy in properly selected cases, the use of SCS is stilllimited and its acceptance by the medical community remains somewhat restricted. This is due toseveral factors including an unclear mechanism of action and difficulties in determining objective endpointsto ass

This paper addresses the source separation in strong noisy mixtures by wavelet de-noising processing. Experiments include the cases of white/correlated Gaussian and non- Gaussian noise, which correspond to various applications. The performance of BSS/ICA algorithms after wavelet de- noising is quantitatively investigated, and points out the efficiency of the method.

To obtain valid 3D joint angles with inertial sensors careful sensor-to-segment calibration (i.e. functional or anatomical calibration) is required and measured angular velocity at each sensor needs to be integrated to obtain segment and joint orientation ...

Background Rehabilitative treatment plans after stroke are based on clinical examinations of functional capacity and patient-reported outcomes. Objective information about daily life performance is usually not available, but it may improve therapy personal ...

A smart wearable (SW) for collecting data on an integrity of a joint of a wearer, the wearable including a first frame (1) configured to be attached in proximity of the joint of the wearer, the frame (1) including an elastic sensor frame (3) having an open ...
