The current monolythic and lengthy scheme behind the standardization and the design of new video coding standards is becoming inappropriate to satisfy the dynamism and changing needs of the video coding community. Such scheme and specification formal- ism ...

Specialized hardware infrastructures for efficient multi-application runtime reconfigurable platforms require to address several issues. The higher is the system complexity, the more error prone and time consuming is the entire design flow. Moreover, system configuration along with resource management and mapping are challenging, especially when runtime adaptivity is required. In order to address these issues, the Reconfigurable Video Coding Group within the MPEG group has developed the MPEG RMC standards I

The potential computational power of today multicore processors has drastically improved compared to the single processor architecture. Since the trend of increasing the processor frequency is almost over, the competition for increased performance has move ...

Over the last 15 years, blockchain technologies have evolved into a heterogeneous ecosystem with numerous practical applications. The diversity of blockchain data models ranging from UTxO-based to account-based systems and evolving towards smart contract platforms - has led to fragmentation in how blockchain data is stored, accessed, and analysed. This heterogeneity hinders interoperability, complicates cross-chain analytics, and limits reproducibility in blockchain research. In this paper, we present a com

This paper presents the main features of the TURNUS coexploration environment, an unified design space exploration framework suitable for heterogeneous parallel systems designed using an high level dataflow representation. The main functions of this tool a ...

Streaming applications describe a broad class of computing algorithms in areas such as signal processing, media coding and compression, cryptography, video analytics, network touting and packet processing and many others. For many of these applications, pr ...

High-throughput sequencing (HTS) data are commonly stored as raw sequencing reads in FASTQ format or as reads mapped to a reference, in SAM format, both with large memory footprints. Worldwide growth of HTS data has prompted the development of compression ...

This paper presents an energy-efficient, duty-cycled, and spinning excitation bridge-to-digital converter (BDC) suitable for measuring the pulmonary artery pressure of heart failure patients with an implantable system. The duty-cycled bridge uses resistanc ...

This paper presents some strategies for design space exploration of FPGA-based signal processing systems that are specified using the CAL dataflow language. The actor- oriented, high-level of abstraction provided by CAL allows flexible exploration and cons ...

While research on the design of heterogeneous concurrent systems has a long and rich history, a unified design methodology and tool support has not emerged so far, and thus the creation of such systems remains a difficult, time-consuming and error-prone pr ...

A cardiovascular monitoring system for measuring at least cardiac output comprises an implantable unit (2) configured for placement in a section of artery of a patient and a portable external unit (1) configured for mounting against or close to a patient's ...

This paper presents a novel method for the measure of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of an artery to be used for the direct and continuous (24/7) monitoring of cardiac output (CO). The method is based on the inductance change of an anchoring loop mounted o ...
