Résumé

This paper presents the main features of the TURNUS coexploration environment, an unified design space exploration framework suitable for heterogeneous parallel systems designed using an high level dataflow representation. The main functions of this tool are illustrated through the analysis of a video decoder implemented in the RVC-CAL dataflow language.

Video codec

A video codec is software or hardware that compresses and decompresses digital video. In the context of video compression, codec is a portmanteau of encoder and decoder, while a device that only compresses is typically called an encoder, and one that only decompresses is a decoder. The compressed data format usually conforms to a standard video coding format. The compression is typically lossy, meaning that the compressed video lacks some information present in the original video.

Video coding format

A video coding format (or sometimes video compression format) is a content representation format for storage or transmission of digital video content (such as in a data file or bitstream). It typically uses a standardized video compression algorithm, most commonly based on discrete cosine transform (DCT) coding and motion compensation. A specific software, firmware, or hardware implementation capable of compression or decompression to/from a specific video coding format is called a video codec.

Le Data Flow Diagram (DFD ; en français, diagramme de flux de données) est un type de représentation graphique du flux de données à travers un système d’information. Cet outil est souvent utilisé comme étape préliminaire dans la conception d’un système afin de créer un aperçu de ce système d’information.
