Toroidal families and averages of L-functions, I

We initiate the study of certain families of L-functions attached to characters of subgroups of higher-rank tori, and of their average at the central point. In particular, we evaluate the average of the values L( 2 1 , chi a )L( 21 , chi b ) for arbitrary ...

On the Sums over Inverse Powers of Zeros of the Hurwitz Zeta Function and Some Related Properties of These Zeros

Serguei Sekatski

Recently, we have applied the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of the analytical function to find the sums over inverse powers of zeros for the incomplete gamma and Riemann zeta functions, polygamma functions, an ...

Non-planarity of Markoff graphs mod p

Matthew De Courcy-Ireland

We prove the non-planarity of a family of 3-regular graphs constructed from the solutions to the Markoff equation x2 + y2 + z2 = xyz modulo prime numbers greater than 7. The proof uses Euler characteristic and an enumeration of the short cycles in these gr ...

Additive and geometric transversality of fractal sets in the integers

Florian Karl Richter

By juxtaposing ideas from fractal geometry and dynamical systems, Furstenberg proposed a series of conjectures in the late 1960's that explore the relationship between digit expansions with respect to multiplicatively independent bases. In this work, we in ...

Six-dimensional sphere packing and linear programming

Maryna Viazovska, Matthew De Courcy-Ireland

We prove that the Cohn-Elkies linear programming bound for sphere packing is not sharp in dimension 6. The proof uses duality and optimization over a space of modular forms, generalizing a construction of Cohn- Triantafillou [Math. Comp. 91 (2021), pp. 491 ...

Some Mordell-Weil lattices and applications to sphere packings

Gauthier Leterrier

We provide new explicit examples of lattice sphere packings in dimensions 54, 55, 162, 163, 486 and 487 that are the densest known so far, using Kummer families of elliptic curves over global function fields. In some cases, these families of elliptic curve ...

The autism susceptibility kinase, TAOK2, phosphorylates eEF2 and modulates translation

Nagammal Neelagandan

Genes implicated in translation control have been associated with autism spectrum disorders (ASDs). However, some important genetic causes of autism, including the 16p11.2 microdeletion, bear no obvious connection to translation. Here, we use proteomics, g ...

On the Use of the Generalized Littlewood Theorem Concerning Integrals of the Logarithm of Analytical Functions for the Calculation of Infinite Sums and the Analysis of Zeroes of Analytical Functions

Serguei Sekatski

Recently, we have established and used the generalized Littlewood theorem concerning contour integrals of the logarithm of an analytical function to obtain a few new criteria equivalent to the Riemann hypothesis. Here, the same theorem is applied to calcul ...

Algebraic twists of GL(2) automorphic forms

Vignesh Arumugam Nadarajan

In this thesis we consider the problem of estimating the correlation of Hecke eigenvalues of GL2 automorphic forms with a class of functions of algebraic origin defined over finite fields called trace functions. The class of trace functions is vast and inc ...

A NEW PROOF OF THE ERDOS-KAC CENTRAL LIMIT THEOREM

Thomas Mountford

In this paper we use the Riemann zeta distribution to give a new proof of the Erdos-Kac Central Limit Theorem. That is, if zeta(s) = Sigma(n >= 1) (1)(s)(n) , s > 1, then we consider the random variable X-s with P(X-s = n) = (1) (zeta) ( ...

ALGEBRAIC TWISTS OF GL3 x GL2 L-FUNCTIONS

Philippe Michel, Yongxiao Lin

We prove that the coefficients of a GL3 x GL2 Rankin-Selberg L-function do not correlate with a wide class of trace functions of small conductor modulo primes, generalizing the corresponding result of Fouvry, Kowalski, and Michel for GL2 and of Kowalski, L ...

Unlikely intersections on the p-adic formal ball

Vlad Serban

We investigate generalizations along the lines of the Mordell-Lang conjecture of the author's p-adic formal Manin-Mumford results for n-dimensional p-divisible formal groups F. In particular, given a finitely generated subgroup (sic) of F(Q(p)) and a close ...

Rankin-Selberg coefficients in large arithmetic progressions

Yongxiao Lin

Let (?(f) (n))(n=1) be the Hecke eigenvalues of either a holomorphic Hecke eigencuspform or a Hecke-Maass cusp form f. We prove that, for any fixed ? > 0, under the Ramanujan-Petersson conjecture for GL(2) Maass forms, the Rankin-Selberg coefficients (?(f) ...

Power variations in fractional Sobolev spaces for a class of parabolic stochastic PDEs

Robert Dalang, Carsten Hao Ye Chong

We consider a class of parabolic stochastic PDEs on bounded domains D c Rd that includes the stochastic heat equation but with a fractional power gamma of the Laplacian. Viewing the solution as a process with values in a scale of fractional Sobolev spaces ...

Extractable Witness Encryption for the Homogeneous Linear Equations Problem

Serge Vaudenay, Bénédikt Minh Dang Tran

Witness encryption is a cryptographic primitive which encrypts a message under an instance of an NP language and decrypts the ciphertext using a witness associated with that instance. In the current state of the art, most of the witness encryption construc ...

Semiclassical Estimates for Eigenvalue Means of Laplacians on Spheres

We compute three-term semiclassical asymptotic expansions of counting functions and Riesz-means of the eigenvalues of the Laplacian on spheres and hemispheres, for both Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Specifically for Riesz-means we prove upper ...

Stable parameterization of continuous and piecewise-linear functions

Michaël Unser, Alexis Marie Frederic Goujon, Joaquim Gonçalves Garcia Barreto Campos

Rectified-linear-unit (ReLU) neural networks, which play a prominent role in deep learning, generate continuous and piecewise-linear (CPWL) functions. While they provide a powerful parametric representation, the mapping between the parameter and function s ...

Results on Sparse Integer Programming and Geometric Independent Sets

Jana Tabea Cslovjecsek

An integer linear program is a problem of the form max{c^T x : Ax=b, x >= 0, x integer}, where A is in Z^(n x m), b in Z^m, and c in Z^n. Solving an integer linear program is NP-hard in general, but there are several assumptions for which it becomes fixed ...
